Today we’d like to introduce you to Charley Pavlosky.
Charley, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
ShopSee, our integrated in-video shopping platform started out as an idea in 2015. The idea came from a problem I saw in the emerging digital streaming landscape at the time. There was a vast disconnect between Hollywood, Silicon Valley and Madison Avenue- they were speaking different languages and thus not playing well together in the digital age. They needed a common language. So I created ShopSee and built and patented the technology. ShopSee is that language which brings them all together, allowing a viewer to shop anything they see right off their video screen- on any device – anywhere, anytime- all in one click. Now we’re partnering with major streamers, sports leagues and gaming companies and it’s taking off.
Aguadios, my elite tequila brand on the other hand, came from my decades-long respect for the tradition of the rarest and finest sipping tequilas the world has ever known- those made by hand and aged for decades- all organically on hand-tilled family farms. So I created the brand in just that fashion and in confluence with the unique relationships I’ve built in the space over the years, have actually perfected the rarest tequila in the world- only 1500 bottles- a unique and one-time offering. Most of the first run is already sold out, pre-release, based upon advance barrel samplings to private collectors to whom we sell by hand.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been an education. Challenges are inevitable when starting a business from scratch. You need a great idea that is ahead of its time yet not too far ahead. You need capital. You need a great team. You need collaboration. You need to stay open and humble and articulate your vision clearly at all times in all circumstances sometimes at a moment’s notice. Then you need a market window, which will allow you to hit your stride upon release. Then you need all of this to come together at the right time, in lock-step in order to have a chance at success. And most important, you need to fully commit. No looking back, no turning away. And of course, you need luck… which you create with all the hard work and preparation you put behind all these attributes.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
From the beginning, I wanted to have fun. I’ve worked hard and I’ve worked smart and I’ve learned that the only way is to work smart. I learned when my optimal time of day was for me to be the most productive. Then I worked in that window and still do. Before and after that I do other things outside the business. When I’m most effective, I do my best work, then I let go. Some entrepreneurs that I see like to boast about how many hours they put in. Some say they work 90-120 hours a week. That’s completely nuts and out of sync with the natural order of things. I believe this is ego-gratifying and nothing more. Those types are confusing activity with results. I don’t subscribe to that thinking. If my day is four hours, so be it. I get all I need to get done in that time and it works for me. The other time, I fill with that which I love doing.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
