Rising Stars: Meet Cecilia García of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cecilia García.

Hi Cecilia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started with the 1992 -1994 East Los Angeles College theater Arts department plays productions, Sharon Radioland on tour theatre company, Lizard Lounge theatre company, East LA. Classic Theater
Latino Actors Shakespeare play Midsummer’s night dream in the West Coast and then moved to the East Coast Pennsylvania and NYC Thanks to Philadelphia Theatre Company 1994-1998 and other Center city Theatre companies in festivals etc. grateful to all above mentioned as well for my start with my home the beginning with the organization
Bilingual Foundation of the Arts 28 years ago it was July 15th 1998 Carmen Zapata birthday she interviewed me as well her team and hired me that same day I felt honored and blessed to be
Apart of the Bilingual Foundation of the Arts I had recently loss my mother that year in May 1998 and in honor of my mother LAUSD Teacher Bilingual Educator Cecilia Serrano who was a student of Carmen Zapata mentored in college. My mother since 1970’s til 1997 contribute supported BFA as patron audience and a fan of Villa Alegre Bilingual kids program on PBS/ KCET member because she was Carmen her devoted fan. I felt I was destined to be part of BFA it was my mother’s wish for me and really connected with the three Co Founder’s Carmen Zapata, Margarita Galban and Estela Scarlata I was truly privileged and grateful to be apart of the 52 years Legacy journey. Going back to the work
I was hired as BFA Youth Theatre Tour AEA Stage Manager for their play Fool for Cool musical that was performed at Schools of The City of Los Angeles and Los Angeles county area as well other outside School Districts Area I continued with the BFA behind the scene work in 1999 -2008 as AEA Stage Manager tech sound operator/Assistant to Production Manager /1999 TMT puppeteer backstage 1999 -2019 main Stage Manager / sound operator 2014 -2022Assistant to the Artistic Director / Set scenery design coordinator throughout the years I have worn many hats in all departments of Bilingual Foundation of the Arts supporting my life exclusively to the organizations who gave me work who trusted and let me do what loved to do Theatre Arts
2009-2019 Director/ Resident main production Stage Manager all plays / sound and Light operator of BFA Too Many Tamales classic Christmas traditional Bilingual cultural playbox office hit.
2022- 2026 present Artistic Director
And BFA Secretary of board I continue the legacy of our Founders I am BFA dedicated my life.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Life is obstacles and challenges it is knowing how to problem solve it and taking Action with out panicking and drama .
Bilingual Foundation of the Arts had lots of obstacles and challenges throughout years many transitions but we believe everyday each year with lot’s hard work devotion with passion, will, hope, faith, harmony Teamwork and the support to get us through …we are grateful to all who have been with us throughout the past and present year and to the future. viva Theatre Arts Live on stage performances.🎭🙏🏼

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Conducting Artistic operational play Production Behind the scenes work pre and post season decision play selection scheduled hiring of the artist and all Tech support etc.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I’m the loyal heart with lots of love ,joy and spirit energy of the Bilingual Foundation of the Arts it’s been part of my hard work and devotion life achievement serving and continue it’s legacy my success is Bilingual Foundation of the Arts bringing joy, encouragement supporting work to all cast Artist behind the scene team who need a stepping stone to build confidence great acting development to all who need support to make to them as professional in their journey
