Rising Stars: Meet Carley Lusk of Los Angeles x Detroit

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carley Lusk

Hi Carley, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My story began in the Midwest. I grew up in and around all four seasons, writing songs about growth, relationships, and any passing thing that inspired me. As a young songwriter, I experimented with various styles, but I always felt most at home with soul and R&B. These genres resonate with me, reflecting the influence of the artists I admire and look up to I am excited to have just released my 8th record, called “THAT GIRL” which is an embodiment of the 60s, mixed with new age RnB Pop. Recorded on the sunny side of LA, this track is the ultimate girl anthem—celebrating the beauty in others while standing confidently in your own power.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life is never a smooth road, often times we learn the most during the valleys of life. Struggles and difficult obstacles will come in many different forms, but when we go through them, we come out stronger. Often times I feel that is the whole point of life, to learn and to grow. I have faced many struggles within relationships, supporting myself at a young age in a big city, and within internal spiritual battles of the self. Your early 20s are a difficult time, everything is new and you have the opportunity to find yourself in many ways. I am now in my late 20s and am eager for the next journey, knowing I made it through so much, I am confident in my faith and my ability to over come! Something I could not yet say in my early 20s, so hold on!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an Artist (Vocalist /Songwriter) Through being an independent artist,you also become many other things such as a booking agent, a director, an editor, a social media manager, and even a promoter! I love all the hats I wear, but my favorite hat is the songwriter hat. I love to write songs for people, I love to entertain, and I will always create art. My newest creation is called “THAT GIRL” which was written by myself, and with the very talented team of Julian Feifel, and Shayna Zaid. The song is 60s, its big and bold, my inner cheerleader even comes out during the post chorus. I am very proud of this tune, and the EP that follows, coming out November 22nd.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I love to grow and dry herbs. People who know me will gift my tea cups, because they are know how much I love to drink tea. But what they don’t know, is I also grow it! Lavender is my favorite.
