Today we’d like to introduce you to Camesha Gosha.
Hi Camesha, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My business has transformed with me and the various stages of my life. It started back in the early 2000’s with a mommy blog. Blogging was very popular then and I needed a community of moms who could relate to new motherhood. My friends hadn’t made the leap yet. It became one way I connected with other mothers. That grew into a business with sponsored posts and opportunities.
After having been in that space for a while I noticed what many of us moms needed was motivation to still go after the things we wanted while raising our kids. As a result, my focus changed to being that motivator. I continued to blog while creating e-books and other digital products. The products aimed to motivate mothers to continue to dream and find a way to pursue those dreams.
My focus now has shifted and has wellness and self-care in the mix. I continue to create digital products, including e-courses. I haven’t completely walked away from my motherhood audience though with the creation of The Black Mom Squad. It’s an online space to share my voice and the voice of others in the trenches of motherhood. I’ve always fielded requests for guest posts or featured writers, this space is totally open for that! I’ve also expanded to joining bookstagram with my own online book club. I’m such a book lover and read a ton, it seemed a natural progression to share that part of myself.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Along the way, the biggest struggle has probably been how much blogging has changed. A lot of blogging has shifted to other platforms, like Instagram. It’s not really the space that it used to be where you felt like you were a part of a community. In that regard, maintaining a presence with a blog as things have shifted has been a bit bumpy.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I spent my whole career as a writer for television and newspapers before dipping my toe into blogging. As a result, writing will always be a part of what I do. Whether it’s writing books or blog posts, I can’t help but write. I think that’s something that sets me apart from others. There’s a true love for the written word.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Along this journey, I’ve learned to evolve. Things change all the time. It’s the same with business as with life, the only constant is change. While we don’t have to jump on every social media platform that surges in popularity to be relevant, we do have to be willing to grow with our audience and allow our audience to grow with us as we change. One of those things for me has been starting a book club. It shares another part of me with my audience. It’s something else we can connect over. My not so distant future plans include a podcast. I’m really excited about that!
