Today we’d like to introduce you to Caitlin Roche.
Hi Caitlin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As the youngest of nine children, I never had a younger sibling growing up, which I believe is the root of my interest in education and teaching. In my early teens, I worked as a camp counselor and quickly realized that working with children was my true calling. Inspired, I decided to pursue a degree in Education, which allowed me further to develop my skills and knowledge in the field.
After completing my degree, I began my teaching career in Education and quickly discovered my passion for working with young children. As I progressed through various teaching positions and took on leadership roles over the years, I developed my skills as an educator and gained a deep understanding of the importance of differentiated instruction and diverse learning environments.
Once I joined MUSE School, I was soon offered a Director position. I spent over a decade continuing to grow and develop as an educator, leader, and human, designing and implementing innovative programs, developing assessment tools, and leading successful teams, all while prioritizing the individual growth and development of the students in our school.
As a Director, I oversee programming and curriculum within the Early Childhood and Elementary Departments on our Calabasas campus and our Virtual School. An absolute highlight thus far for me at MUSE has been creating and implementing a unique, individualized, Globally recognized grading system called The MUSE Blueprint. I am so proud to be part of an institution that shares my passion for lifelong learning and innovation in education. MUSE is a school that fosters much more than academics; it’s about fostering curiosity, creativity, and empathy. We create learning environments that inspire teachers and students to explore the world and develop the skills needed to create positive change.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think anyone working in education can truthfully say their journey has been a smooth road, especially those of us who lead for or teach in nontraditional schools. One of the biggest struggles all of us face in education is adapting to the ever-evolving landscape. This was most recently challenging to me during the COVID years. With new technologies and teaching methods emerging, we understood the need to make immediate and impactful changes as a school to keep up with the needs of students and families – and we did! We successfully launched an online school that provided each grade with teachers that taught from their virtual classrooms 100% live from 8 am-3 pm. Our virtual platform offered everything our in-person school provided, and students from around the country (and beyond) can now attend MUSE.
It was so wonderful to maintain our founders’ philosophy and pillars on a 100% virtual platform. It wasn’t easy, but it was successful! While there have been struggles along the way, it is clear that MUSE has not only grown but thrived from each experience.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the Director of both the Early Childhood and Elementary Departments of MUSE Global Schools. I oversee the programming, curriculum, and faculty within both departments. We create and implement innovative educational programs that prioritize passion-based hands-on learning, sustainability, and social-emotional development. I support a community of unique teachers who approach education in a way that fosters students’ passions, creativity, critical thinking, and a sense of community. We empower our students to become lifelong learners from an early age.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
As humans, we are certainly ever-evolving, and as we grow older, we hopefully continue to embrace being consummate learners. To me, this has meant approaching leadership and learning with an open and curious mindset, always seeking to expand my knowledge and understanding, and always being excited to explore new ideas!
