Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooklyn Sosa.
Brooklyn, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Music has been the oxygen in the atmosphere that I breathe in. Singing is the carbon dioxide that I breathe out in response to what I take in. I started singing and performing in elementary school and music has been in alignment with every part of me ever since. It has always brought me indescribable joy and I’ve witnessed the amusement it brings to others. I took any chance I could to sing on stage, whether it be a talent show, a pep rally, a musical, or a Sunday morning worship set at church.
As much as I am enamored by the dazzling details and feelings of music, I’ve grown to be very passionate about the connectivity it brings. From church to professional gigs, I’ve become mesmerized by the way lyrics and melodies can make everyone in the room feel similar (if not the same) emotions. It’s jaw-dropping to witness, let alone, to be the catalyst of. I’ve been infatuated with making those moments happen for myself and others. That infatuation led me to pursue an education at Los Angeles College of Music where I’m currently working to get my Bachelor’s degree in vocal performance.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve faced some grueling times while pursuing my education in music. From a car accident that took a toll on my body and mind to heartbreak caused by grieving one of my closest friends. But the obstacle that made everything especially inauspicious was imposter syndrome. Suffering from that destructive mentality made it hard for me to believe that I was capable of achieving successes and accomplishing my goals. It had kept me in many ruts, amplified my anxiety and depression, and led me to close doors on opportunities I thought I didn’t deserve. Fortunately, I am blessed with an amazing support system that pushes me to not only be my best but also pushes me to feel my best.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a singer/songwriter. I’m an R&B artist. I’m also a full-time vocal performance major at Los Angeles College of Music. I’m known for my bright & bold voice, exciting & enticing stage presence, and my catchy, rhythmic original lyrics. I’m most proud of my original songs (that should be coming out by the end of this year). I put a lot of my energy and focus into writing songs that have intriguing details, quality storytelling, and rhythmic melodies to get people movin’ & groovin’ with me. I believe what truly makes me notable as an artist is my magnetic energy. I haven’t quite put my finger on it yet, but I’ve recognized that I have this beaming & inviting allure that can be found in all my performances and projects. I know that when I put my all into a song, I have the ability to captivate an audience and bring them into the moment I’m creating through music.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I believe success is a feeling rather than a physical state or status. It’s a feeling of satisfaction, pride, and excitement. When I feel proud and truly satisfied with a project or performance of mine, I become estatic and eager to start the next big project or performance.
