Rising Stars: Meet Brian Brown of Bellflower

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Brown.

Hi Brian, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I always was into music from as early as I can remember. Artists I grew up on were the likes of Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, and Kriss Kross and TonyToniTone to name a few.
I started doing music back in middle school and I made a mixtape that got around and allowed me to start performing. In high school I opened up for artists like Jhene Aiko, Cypress Hill and Ice T. I’ve had situations that would lead to deals but never quite fully formed, but I’d like to think it happened for a reason. Now learning that the business was not all it was cracked up to be, I’ve learned that independent is the best way to go.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This has not been a smooth road at all from experiencing homelessness, family issues to dealing with functional depression. It all played a part in if I still even cared or wanted to do music at all. One of the few ppl who helped me when I was going to quit music was Glasses Malone, he told me that the problems I opened up to him about sounds like good content (meaning to put it all in the music) so I started to and that changed my perspective on life and songwriting. I still struggle with opening up not only as a person but as an artist, however I’m making that change to grow in that area.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an hiphop and R&b artist known as B. Lamont, formerly known as B. Starrz. I’m most proud that I never gave up doing something that i love to do. Another thing that I’m most proud of is starting a podcast with my brothers titled, “A Brunch of Culture”. What sets me apart is that I don’t look to others to find an answer about myself, it’s just me and what I think, just being myself, everyone else’s lane is already full. I have my sound and my choice of topics that also set me apart.

How do you think about luck?
I don’t believe in luck but what I can say is God has been with me all this way and my network is probably the most unbelievable thing I have. The things some may call bad luck has shaped me in to who I am and what some may call good luck is on the way.
