Today we’d like to introduce you to Bow Wow Wow.
Hi Bow Wow Wow, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Bow Wow Wow are an English new wave band, created by manager Malcolm McLaren in 1980 who also formed the Sex Pistols. McLaren recruited members of Adam and the Ants to form the band. They released their debut single
“C30 C60 C90 Go!” in 1980, followed by the first ever cassette EP “Your Cassette Pet” later that year. They had their first UK top 10 hit with
“Go Wild in the Country” in 1982 followed by the worldwide success of “I Want Candy” and spurred on by a popular music video on MTV. In the US, RCA compiled an album, “I Want Candy”, to capitalize on their newfound American audience.
The band is currently touring with co-founding member, songwriter, and bassist Leigh Gorman who delivers his unique virtuoso musicianship joined by current lead vocalist Dame Madelyn, who comes from a long tradition of Las Vegas jazz history, following her passion as a singer/songwriter, cross-pollinating jazz, Bossa Nova and Blues into a beautiful, captivating and modern sound.
Bow Wow Wow just wrapped up their nationwide summer tour and you can catch them locally at Sainte Rock in Hermosa Beach on 10/26. Whisky A Go Go on 1/15/26 and The Coachhouse 1/24/26.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
“Too many obstacles and
challenges to mention.. lol. But still just going to plow through regardless and carry on performing some of the most fun and uplifting music around”
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
“I believe that Bow Wow Wow has a sound and overall approach to music like no other. The meld of many cultures, that is typical of London then and now, is something that we generated such joy in expressing, but always with the main purpose of creating something fun, inventive and exciting that was genuinely joyful to hear.”.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Leigh Gorman:
Growing up in East London playing along to “Burundi beats” on a little goatskin drum when I was a kid at Christmas parties with our neighbors from Jamaica and Africa”.
Dame Madelyn:
My godfather Alfonso Semola was the showroom conductor of the Riviera hotel and the Stardust hotel in Vegas back in the day and performed and arranged music for greats such as Edie Gourmet, Liza Minnelli, Tony Bennett and many more. My favorite childhood memories are falling asleep under his piano while he played or attending one of his amazing shows with my mom:)
