Rising Stars: Meet Armeen Mobasher of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Armeen Mobasher

Hi Armeen, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
FitUmmah was born out of a shared vision and a deep personal journey. While living in London for two years, I found myself surrounded by a dense and tight-knit Muslim community. Seeing the way faith was woven into everyday life inspired me to get closer to my deen (way of life). At the same time, I became more aware of how discipline in Islam and discipline in fitness go hand in hand. Both require consistency, perseverance, and a strong mindset—whether it’s through prayer, fasting, or maintaining a healthy lifestyle. That realization sparked the idea for FitUmmah: a brand that would inspire the Muslim community to stay committed to both their deen and their physical and mental well-being.

Later, I was catching up with my business partner, Mohammad, and I shared the idea with him. To my surprise, he had the exact same idea but had never acted on it. We took it as a sign that FitUmmah was meant to be. From the start, our goal was never just about clothing—it was about building a community. The ummah (Muslim community) is strongest when we uplift each other, and FitUmmah exists to unite Muslims who are striving for self-improvement in both faith and fitness. Our designs reflect that mindset, with every piece carrying a message rooted in Islam, reminding people that their journey—whether in the gym or in life—is ultimately about discipline, gratitude, and staying true to their purpose.

Now, as FitUmmah continues to grow, we’re focused on expanding our reach, not just through apparel but through real-world connections. Whether it’s online or in person at halal markets and events, we want to create spaces where Muslims can come together, motivate one another, and strengthen their bodies and their faith. At its core, FitUmmah is more than a brand—it’s a movement to inspire and unite the ummah. And because we believe in giving back, we donate 20% of all proceeds to Gaza relief efforts and islahLA, ensuring that our success helps uplift those in need and continues to strengthen the Muslim community as a whole.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like any entrepreneurial journey, building FitUmmah has come with its challenges. From the beginning, we knew we weren’t just starting a clothing brand—we were trying to create a movement, and that meant we had to be intentional about everything: our messaging, our designs, and the way we connected with the community. One of the biggest challenges was balancing the business side with our mission. In the world of fitness apparel, mainstream brands dominate, and carving out a space that reflects both faith and fitness in an authentic way took time and effort. We wanted every piece we created to mean something—to resonate with Muslims striving to better themselves physically, mentally, and spiritually.

Another challenge has been visibility and reach. Since we’re not just selling a product but a mindset, it’s been important to find the right audience—people who align with our vision. Growing FitUmmah has meant navigating marketing strategies, experimenting with social media, and finding in-person sales opportunities like halal markets where we can connect with people directly. At the same time, managing inventory, production, and fulfillment has been a learning curve, especially as demand grows.

But despite the challenges, every struggle has reinforced why we started. Seeing people resonate with the message, wear our designs, and embrace the FitUmmah lifestyle makes it all worth it. It’s a reminder that we’re not just building a brand—we’re building a community, and that’s what keeps us pushing forward.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My journey has always been about merging technology, innovation, and community impact. I have a background in Data Science and Computing, and my career has revolved around using AI, machine learning, and immersive technologies like AR and VR to create meaningful experiences—whether in education, business, or now, fitness. I’ve worked on projects that bring complex concepts to life through technology, including developing AR applications for college classroom learning and building AI-driven solutions that enhance engagement and accessibility.

At the same time, my passion for fitness and faith led me to create FitUmmah. I saw a gap in the market—there were plenty of fitness brands and plenty of Islamic brands, but none that truly brought the two together in a way that felt authentic. FitUmmah became a way to bridge that gap and inspire Muslims to stay committed to both their deen and their physical health. It’s a natural extension of what I’ve always been drawn to: building things that create impact and bring people together.

What sets FitUmmah apart, much like my work in tech, is the focus on purpose and community. In both fields, I’ve strived to use innovation to engage people, whether it’s through AI-driven learning tools or apparel that carries a deeper message. One of the things I’m most proud of is seeing how FitUmmah resonates with people—not just as a brand, but as a mindset. Just like in my tech career, where I build solutions that make learning and interaction more meaningful, FitUmmah is about creating something that goes beyond the surface. It’s about empowerment, discipline, and unity, and that’s what drives me in everything I do.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is impact—creating something meaningful that leaves a lasting effect on people’s lives. Whether it’s through technology, education, or FitUmmah, my goal has always been to build things that inspire, uplift, and bring people together. I’ve seen firsthand how innovation can transform the way people learn and engage, whether through AI-driven applications or immersive AR experiences. But beyond the tech itself, it’s the human connection that truly matters—how what I create can help someone grow, think differently, or feel empowered.

This same principle drives FitUmmah. It’s not just about clothing; it’s about inspiring the ummah to push themselves—to be disciplined, to stay strong in their faith, and to prioritize their well-being. Islam teaches us the importance of balance, and fitness is a reflection of that discipline, both mentally and physically. Seeing people resonate with that message, knowing that FitUmmah is helping to build confidence, community, and commitment to self-improvement, is what makes it all worth it.

At the core of everything I do, whether in my tech career or with FitUmmah, is the belief that we should always strive to leave things better than we found them. It’s about building something bigger than myself—something that has purpose, serves others, and continues to inspire long after the work is done.
