Today we’d like to introduce you to Angeline Gutierrez.
Hi Angeline, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m born & raised here in Los Angeles, which is a statement I have always been so proud of and grateful for. I grew up in a very creative family, filled with artists, that allowed me to explore my individuality and creativity at such an early age. I started getting into makeup when I entered jr. high and slowly experimented with mascara, eyeshadow, and eyeliner.
Entering high school, I grew a huge passion for it and realized I can turn this hobby of mine into a full-blown career. Upon graduating in 2020 & due to the pandemic, I wasn’t able to start right away in my journey. It wasn’t until 2022 when I attended Makeup Designory LA and decided to take their Master Makeup Artistry Program. For those 6 months, I learned so much from my talented instructors and classmates that I will forever appreciate. Once I graduated makeup school in July 2022, I started working on professional sets as early as the following month. I have worked with amazing production teams, photographers, talents, and like-minded creatives. I have had my work published twice and worked on really fun film projects, and this is only just the beginning. I am so grateful for the opportunities I’ve had, the amount of support from my family & friends, and for all, I’ve accomplished so far. I’m very excited for all that is to come in this artistry journey I am so honored to be a part of!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
When the pandemic hit, I was a senior in high school. I was very excited to graduate and start my journey as a professional makeup artist. Everything was put on hold and then it began a game of patience for me. Though it was a rough couple of years adjusting to life again, I am grateful for those two years because I grew a lot as an individual and an artist.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an LA-based makeup artist! I specialize in beauty & special effects. I absolutely love working on film/TV sets and editorials. My passion for my artistry drives me to the coolest sets ever, working alongside really amazing people. I have worked on tv pilots, short independent films, commercial shoots, music videos, editorial shoots, and more! I would say my most proud work has to be my first editorial cover shoot I worked on for Pump Magazine, with my talented creative friends Margot Judge and Juliette Cecille. That shoot will forever hold a special place in my heart.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
I have learned that patience is a virtue. I have also learned that in times of stillness, you can learn a lot about yourself. I learned so much about myself while waiting around at home. In ways that I personally feel helped me grow as an artist. When you connect yourself with your passion, your goals and dreams become much more aligned together. While it was a difficult time, it’s those moments of self-reflection that I am grateful to have learned.
