Rising Stars: Meet Andrew Cardenas of San Fernando Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Cardenas.

Andrew, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Just like most teens out of high school I really didn’t know what I wanted to do. I did always like working with my hands since a young age. I loved to build skateboard ramps from left over wood around the neighborhood. When I was 20 years old, I was introduced to HVAC. I quickly fell in love with the business and technical aspect of it. A few years later, I began to realize I needed to work for myself if I wanted to be successful and the 2008 market crash definitely cemented that thought process as I watched many people lose their careers after decades of hard work. I quickly realized we are no longer living in a time where Coca-Cola, GM motors or Boeing or places that we’re going to employ people in to retirement. Fast forward a couple years and a couple companies later I found myself highly engaged in the HVAC industry in sales and technical work. I began to develop my own clientele which began to grow at a healthy rate, which caused me to work weekends and late nights. I would remember I would get out of work at about five and we would do jobs till about 11 or 12 o’clock at night, then I will go back to work the next morning at 7 or 8 AM. I remember doing this for about two years and then I quit my full-time employment to go on my own. I didn’t have a license yet this was in about 2013. I ran this way for 5 years, I was blessed enough to find enough business to carry us through, and in 2018 I realize I was losing out on big jobs because the lack of a license so I finally went and got my license. In 2019 was our first full year, which we did really well and we were looking to grow exponentially in 2020 and Covid hit. The first few months of 2020 through Covid were tough but as we got out of 2020 and went into 2021 economy was great and Covid was actually a blessing to us, although it was very painful for many families. As we finally got out of Covid, we finally picked a momentum and we’ve put more trucks on the road every year. The hardest part of our business is finding good people to employ. I’ve been able to build this business through quality of work, always answering my phone even when I don’t have the answers or or when I don’t want to have those tough conversations. We strive to educate our clients on the investments into their homes and businesses, we prefer quality over quantity. Today and every day it’s a hustle that you have to be built for, I always admire people who look like they have it all figured out, I love to see people do good. It’s my motivation. I always tell people that own businesses we have to be psychotically optimistic

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
