Rising Stars: Meet Alexa Cappelli of Los Angeles, CA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexa Cappelli

Hi Alexa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started singing when I was young, my dad was one of the biggest influences to me as I fell in love with music hearing him play guitar with his friends in the house. I started voice lessons in second grade at the church where I grew up. That lead me to musical theater, to singing in local contests, to going to an arts high school, to auditioning for The Voice my senior year. Being on that show made me realize I wanted to do more than just sing, but that I wanted to tell stories and create an artistic voice that’s unique to me. I tried college for a little and dropped out to start doing writing in LA to really give myself the best shot at music. I’ve never stopped since, traveling, performing, and finding a love for sharing it all online, which has led me to where I am now. Happy to be here!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The hardest things for me have been less about the music industry, while it can be complicated, and more just human-in-their-mid 20’s things. I still feel like I have so much to learn, things I want to do, parts of myself I want to find. In the last couple years, I signed a record deal and got dropped, lost and found and lost management, while trying to relearn how to trust my artistic instincts. Balancing other’s feedback with my own inner critic can be difficult, but I’m learning it’s better to take imperfect steps forward than none at all.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have a new EP coming out this fall! I wrote and recorded and rewrote these songs for the last three years, and it’s so special getting to see them in the light of day. I’m more proud of this project than I am of any of my previous because of the trek it took to get them into the world. I love interacting with fans online in an exciting and positive way, and I’m so ready for them to hear new music from me again.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Personally, I really love the melodies and drive of my music. Whether it’s getting me amped or making me cry I feel like I’m going and getting somewhere. I’d like to think that’s why I fell in love with music in the first place. The way it takes you to old memories or marks new seasons in life is special and I hope my music has that effect on my listeners.
