Today we’d like to introduce you to Ale Campillo.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
The last word a stranger would use to describe me is timid. At age 3, I was the self proclaimed “mayor” of my sleepy cul-de-sac in the San Fernando valley. I have always had smiley eyes and my all my tías used to say “tienes la cara de bueno.” Whether it meant running for cross county captain or giving an unsolicited pop culture hot takes, its safe to say I have always been one of the “characters” or “big personalities.”
However, I found my 20’s crippled with self doubt, existential dread, and fear of what life has in store. Underneath what at times has felt like unstoppable extroversion and lust for life, has also resided a sea of neglected wounds and loneliness. Instead of figuring this out in traditional talk therapy, I ironically have decided to launch an artist project called Tímide that explores these themes in a way I only think I am semi-prepared for. In some ways it’s a return to childhood. In other, it feels like a wiser future self full of introspection hoping to illuminate past hurt. Will this post and others like it populate on the World Wide Web forever? Why yes!
Yet, through this project I have also stepped into a new era of quiet confidence. I am trying to step away from shame that comes with expectation. In fact, I’m becoming less Timid than ever. Only this time, from the outside, you might not really be able to tell.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
TikTok
Politics
Laziness
My love of raves
The concept of time
A deep urge to explore every nook and cranny of my city
Not having a car for most of my life
My brain
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Tímide is unabashedly pop yet unafraid to swing and miss.
My first song “Overdrive” is all about putting a brake to coming out of the closet trauma.
My second song “blow a kiss” was inspired by children’s lullaby, 2010’s recession pop, and the southwest.
My next song “crying and dancing” recounts a long night of recreational experimentation at a rave—from the perspective of the most anxious person in the friend group—it comes out October 28!
I have many more songs coming in the next few months so stay tuned…….. ;0
