Today we’d like to introduce you to Adeline Arjad Cook.
Hi Adeline, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
In 2015, my husband asked me why I dress so sexy and sassy when I’m off the court – but so baggy on the court.
I explained that my “top” half was a size 12 and my “bottom” half a size 8, so in order to fit, I had to buy larger tennis dresses that didn’t fit correctly.
After traveling the world to source the finest fabric – and tirelessly designing the best pattern – I launched my luxury tennis brand.
And so, the Court 🎾 to Cocktails 🍸 Tennis Dress 💃🏼 Collection was born!
With the sultry Monroe dress being my first design – now (9 years later), there are three floors of dresses, skirts, tops, men’s tennis attire, jewelry, and bags, all stitched and made in DTLA.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The most challenging part of the business is making the vision become a masterpiece. Whether working with the fine jeweler, bag makers, or sewers, it took a very long time to get the “A-Team”! (Adeline’s team!)
My 4-way stretch is extremely difficult to work with – and I designed it in ways that have never been done before. When I went to 5 different pattern makers with my LOVE “O” Skirt idea they said it can’t be done. Eventually, I found a gem of an artist who worked with me to get the first sample made, and it was beautiful. No side seams, it floats through the air like a light frisbee! The one-piece skirt is also on the Sandra Dee dress too.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
Adeline Arjad Cook (Pronounced add-ah-LEAN rhymes with Tennis Queen 🎾👑) is the first and only ultra-luxury brand designed specifically for a woman’s body and made in the USA.
The quality, fit, sizing, and prints are the finest in the world. Soft fabrics and huge selection is what makes Love Love Tennis unique.
Many of our printed pieces have less than 20 pieces made!
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
When the courts shut down, I had zero sales. I had the idea to take my clients on tennis trips – to have something to look forward to – and income coming in.
Taking 16 women to Turks and Caicos was awesome!
I was grateful to own my own business so I could choose to stay home and safe. And that the state helped us stay afloat.
