Myron McClure of Los Angeles on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Myron McClure. Check out our conversation below.

Myron, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
well, believe it or not, I’m actually pretty camera shy when in front of the camera. I find that a lot of photographers give instructions like “ok now give me a sexy look. Now give me a mean look” and that just doesn’t work for me. Am I great at taking photos, sure. But, even better am I at getting my client relaxed. My specialty is people! And because I really love helping people, I offer little things before and during the shoot that really help the client show their natural confidence. And if they aren’t as experienced with photo taking. I walk them through the basics while shooting and they always come back and tell me how helpful my system is!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! Im Myron McClure and Ive been a professional photographer for the better part of 10 years. I am mainly based in Los Angeles and have been lucky enough to have worked with big names such as Eva Longoria, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Candace Cameron, California Gov. Gavin Newsom and many other great talents. What makes my technique stand out? It’s simple! I love people! It makes me happy to help people show the best part of themselves and achieve whatever art they desire within the photo. It’s actually fun to me and the majority of my client feedback is how fun and proffesionl their shoot was. I work with my clients in collaboration as opposed to fitting them into a linear vision that they may or may not fit their needs. My pictures are crisp and polished. And it doesn’t hurt that my prices are very client friendly. I started off as an actor who wanted to shoot his own headshots and after learning from some of the best photographers in town, decided to start my own business. I had one problem with shooting with local photographers. What if I didn’t like my shots?? That’s I offer my clients peace of mind by imploring a policy that no other high end photographer does. If we don’t love the shots, reshoots are FREE! Knowing that is the beginning of relaxation for my client. After that, the photos usually speak for themselves.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
There was a woman in my acting class who was a professional model represented by the FORD modeling agency. I asked her to shoot with me and she took a chance and let me photograph her headshots. She was baffled and before she gave me her feedback I remember being terrified. She was a Professional model. To my surprise she loved her pictures. It was such a boost of confidence that It made me want to shoot more and help actors get the auditions they wanted. I didn’t charge back then of course lol but we shoot till this day. Needless to say It was a tremendous shot in the arm for my journey.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
I live by a motto. All seeds grow from dirt. My grandmother used to say that all things that live are bound to suffer. But when you focus on the suffering, you actually suffer more and if you can find something to be grateful for while suffering, you will find that the mind has the power to change its perception. So I always try to find a way to be grateful for all the things in my life. Even the suffering. Because if you are to love yourself fully, you must first understand that all things experienced brought you to this point. They key is to be grateful for every breath you are given in this lifetime.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
I’d say one of my greatest personality traits is that I am always me. We all have different tiers of personality that we show depending on who we interact with. My through line happens to be humor and happiness. I remember I had gotten into a near vital motor vehicle accident. I had broken my back and had to be taken away in an ambulance. They didn’t have a full assessment of my health so they asked me to try to keep my eyes open. I was in so much pain and I didn’t want to so I told them “ok…. how about I close my eyes to concentrate on blocking the pain BUT I tell you a joke while doing it.” The joke was a smash. The entire ambulance bursted out in laughter

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I believe we are always doing what’s in our heart. The movie Forrest Gump had such a great line that stayed with me. Jenny (forrest’s love interest and best friend) asked Forrest “do you ever dream Forrest, of who you’re going to be?” and Forrest replied “Aren’t I going to be Me?” And that is such a beautiful thought process. No one knows what the future holds. We can only do the best with what we are given and try our best to be happy. As the movie would say “life is like a box of chocolates”
