Mich Page of Burbank on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Mich Page shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Mich, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Softball!!! I started a team with all of my friends and we joined a league about three years ago now. We play every Sunday and getting to see my friends weekly to run around a bit and have some fun? Nothing beats it! It’s the only day of the week I try not to get work on.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hey! My name is Mich Page — I’m a Director, Editor, and Makeup Artist based in Los Angeles. I originally got my start in film through the lens of makeup artistry, something I’ve been passionate about since I was about twelve years old. I began working as a makeup artist more officially when I was in college, around 2019.
Makeup will always be my first love and something I still do regularly, but along the way, I discovered my deeper passion for filmmaking. I’ve always been a storyteller at heart, and that drive eventually led me to co-found my own production company, Voodoo Visuals, with my partner and creative counterpart, Gary Matthew Ryan.
Together, we work closely with brands and musicians to create distinctive, visually engaging content — from music videos and promotional visuals to live shows. I directed and edited my first music video about four years ago, and I’ve been hooked ever since.
Directing is a craft I’ve continued to develop and refine over the past few years, while editing has always come naturally to me. Even though editing and I have a bit of a love/hate relationship at times, I’ve especially appreciated the growth and new skills I’ve built this past year.
I’m proud — and very grateful — to work as a fully freelance artist. While juggling multiple roles might sound chaotic to some, I thrive on the variety, freedom, and flexibility it brings. I love the rhythm of short-term projects flowing through my weeks and months, and I’m always excited to see where my artistry leads me next!

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
I think the moment that comes to mind most is losing my younger sister when I was seven years old. My sister was born with an incurable disease and was adopted from Russia by parents without the knowledge of this medical anomaly. My sister fought hard every day and ultimately passed away in her ninth surgery unexpectedly. As sad as this story is, it taught me at a very young age that life is so incredibly precious. Time passes quickly. People you love can pass in an instant. Hug those close to you and hug them often!

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
I think fear of judgement has held me back most in my life. I had a tough early life, a tough schooling experience. Letting go and just being fully and authentically myself is something I still working on every day! Lots of patience and many baby steps later but we are making progress for sure. I just need to keep reminding myself that we live on a giant floating rock and at the end of the day, nobody cares about it as much as me probably!

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I think right now, at this CURRENT moment, my friends would say that balance is the most important. This year especially, I’ve been really focused on trying to balance the aspects of my life. For example, I could take on too much editing work and feel like I’m drowning in my editing work. Another example was that I would frequently find myself working until 8 or 9pm multiple days a week and eventually enough was enough! I work hard now on trying to balance how much I’m working in general, how long I’m working each day, time I spend with friends, time for myself, time with my significant other, time with our cats, cooking vs ordering in, etc! Trying to balance my life more consciously has made a huge impact on my mental health and my artistry this year.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
When I’m on set directing and we’re right on schedule *heart eyes emoji*. This is somewhat of a rarity in film but it’s one of the best feelings when everything is running how it’s supposed to and you can take a breath!
