We recently had the chance to connect with Meredith Jackson and have shared our conversation below.
Meredith, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
When I’m creating or editing my own projects, I definitely get so immersed in what I’m doing that I can lose track of time. I’m currently developing a project based on letters that my grandparents wrote to one another in the 1940s. Right now, I’m in the midst of narrating the actual letters verbatim; I’m voicing my grandmother’s letters, and Devin McGee is voicing my grandfather’s letters. Simultaneously, I’m developing a scripted version of the story that the letters tell. It’s a fascinating portal into a different era. It’s also amazing to feel like I’m getting the chance to really know who my grandparents were when they were younger. Working on this project has brought me so much joy, and an understanding of my family, and myself.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m an actress based in Los Angeles. This year, I was delighted to be a part of two new shows that aired – High Potential (ABC / Hulu) and Rescue: HI-Surf (FOX / Hulu). In High Potential, the episode (Season 1, Episode 8 – “Obsessed”) opens on me as I’m walking along the beach to claim a good spot, when I come across a body, and call for help. In Rescue: HI-Surf (Season 1, Episode 10 – “Riptide”), I play Chelsea who jumps into the ocean attempting to save her son (who was swept out to sea). After nearly drowning and being rescued, along with her son, she realizes she’s lost her great-grandmother’s ring and asks for help finding it. Laka, a North Shore lifeguard, sees her scouring the beach, and he helps her look. I had such a blast filming both shows on the beach. We filmed High Potential in Malibu, and Rescue: HI-Surf in Hawaiʻi (on the North Shore of Oahu).
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
I’ve had great role models and mentors. One of the hardest workers I know is my mom; I definitely got my work ethic from watching her when I was young. I’m also constantly learning from Marjorie Ballentine (my acting coach). Her focus on scene study, script interpretation, and character point of view has made me a better actor and storyteller. The amazing mentors I’ve had over the years have strongly shaped my work ethic and technique. I’m very project focused and goal oriented, so I get completely immersed in a project until it’s finished.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self, it would be to find more moments to be completely present and grateful. Even as you’re working towards goals, I think it’s important to really appreciate what you already have.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My family would say my integrity and work ethic really matter to me. I really value honesty and unwavering determination, which I attribute to both of my parents.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
When I’m gone, I hope that people say that I inspired them to follow their dreams.
