Meet Zichun Wang of New York

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zichun Wang

Zichun, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am an award-winning motion designer with a passion for branding and storytelling through design and animation. My professional journey began at Cision, where I collaborated with cross-functional teams to develop visual assets for digital ads, promo videos, and social media. After my time at Cision, I joined the CNN Design team, creating graphic packages for live news programs and documentaries. My work included animating title sequences, show opens, and transitions for projects like The Whole Story with Anderson Cooper, The Many Lives of Martha Stewart, and TV on the Edge. In 2024, I joined College Board as a motion graphic designer, where I craft visually dynamic content for the education industry.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think overall my journey was smooth, but I have to say that the biggest difficulty for me was balancing creativity with client expectations when directly working with clients as a motion designer. Feedback loops, especially critical or vague ones, sometimes ruined my confidence. However, I believe each challenge contributed to growth and a deeper understanding of the craft.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I do motion design and I create motion videos and animation for brands and clients. The most proud of project I’ve done is for a non-profit organization. I created a series of promo videos to express our idea – each girl has a halo behind her even though it’s not visible. These halos make girls smarter and more powerful. These halos are formed from a kind of information, that’s different from technological data. It’s more like a type of knowledge girls can control and can learn from nature.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I think the motion design industry will grow over the next 5-10 years, driven significantly by advancements in AI. AI-powered tools are becoming integral to the creative process, and designers can save a lot of time when doing tedious tasks like keyframing and rendering.
