Today we’d like to introduce you to Zack Zublena.
Zack, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I fell in love with photography in South Africa, during a safari in the Kruger Park. Back in L.A, II started doing headshots and fashion and quickly realized that the artistic part of a fashion shoot, sometimes close to fine arts, what was I was attracted to. Since I have no option but to be passionate about what I do, I committed to fine arts photography, knowing how risky it could be on a financial standpoint. That’s when I started to feel a strong inspiration to gold. I wanted to do nude but it seems like everything had be done already.
I had a gold wall built in my home studio, out of extra thin gold leaves, and started body painting my models in gold. Gold being the purest metal, the manifestation of the soul, trapped in this physical body of ours – but going from inside out and showing on the skin after piercing its epiderm. My very first Gold Shoot received immediately attention from an interior designer that what remodeling a wine cellar in Beverly Hills and, four weeks later, my photos were printed 46 x 72 inches, museum framed, hanged in that very cellar. “Follow the white rabbit” as they say. I felt like it was an awesome start.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I haven’t faced any real struggles. I trust the process and I know that I am doing what I’m supposed to be doing.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Make your dreams come Gold!
Gold is Gold, Gold on Gold, God is Gold, Gold is God, Good to Gold you are…
What set me apart from other photographers is my unique specialty which is the Gold Shoot. I can now say that I master Gold Photography like no other, because of my creative mind but also because of how much I now do it. My French background somehow sets me apart as well, perhaps it’s the accent or the openness to Fine Arts that we naturally inherit in Europe. I grew up in Paris and studied Art, I guess that makes me the stereotypical French artist! My inspiration comes from the Italian renewal, 15th century, Leonardo Da Vinci, Raphael, Pontormo, Michel-Angelo. My unique offer to my clients is to be the art they purchase. My nude photography is done in such a tasteful and subtle way so that the subjects are proud to frame it and hang it in their living room. A piece of art. The art that you are – enhanced, magnified, brought to heaven and back.
Most Boudoir Shoots have not evolved from what they were in the 80s; panties and heels. We have seen so many of these.
I prefer turning people into a piece of art, an antic gold statue, and photographing them as a Greek Goddess or God, all gold on gold. And – keep the sexiness.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in such a thing.
I believe that, at some time and point of your existence, you will finally do what you were born to do.
“Light can only be made out of darkness” and sometimes, it may take a while to see this light.
