Today we’d like to introduce you to Yolanda Whitfield.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
That’s a good question! I graduated high school in 2010 from Delaware Valley Charter HS not knowing the importance of credit. My entire teen years my father always told me to make sure your bills are paid. I never received the information about credit until I made the worst decision that affected my credit score. About two years after graduating, I was tired of taking the bus to get to work. So I decided to get my first car that was finance, on that day I found out my credit score was 730 I had excellent credit. My first finance car I was so excited and I was shocked that I had a 730 credit score. That good credit score journey stops when I put a car in my name for someone. Bad decision I made, didn’t get me wrong they was making the payment on time everything was good until the car got repo.
My credit score drop to a 547 credit score, I went from excellent or now poor credit. I couldn’t believe it so I started looking for different ways to up my credit. Remember I was never taught about credit so I started to apply for any anything to see if I can get approved. I applied for 14 credit cards that I was denied for. Then collection account started to show up on my report. My credit score was so bad that I couldn’t get apartment.
So I started doing my research looking for help. Look into about 3 to 5 companies and I found one that changed my life. I partner with them and the repo came off of one credit bureau, my collections came off and 14 hard inquiries. I was so impressed that I got back to the 700 credit score club. I was extremely impressed. That’s when I started to think I’m not the only one that needed help with their credit or finances.
That’s when Yolanda Financial Services was born in 2020. I started in the credit industry then added more services because it was needed for my clientele. It’s very important that as business owners, we listen to our clients. Just by me listening I added Tax Services, Payroll Services, Business Funding and help with Business Credit. I started my business to help more people like me that been looking for help. I have seen so many people be scammed and they really need help to get around.
The journey I have been on was bumpy but I’m proud to say I’m a full-time entrepreneur that has a passion for what I do for a living.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a business is never a smooth road. Becoming an entrepreneur is not for the weak. I had multiple struggles when starting my business. No support, people asking me questions if I made the right decision. I had people that knew I was in the Credit and finance industry and still did business with someone else.
I started to change my mindset and listening to motivational speakers Eric Thomas, Grant Cardone, Eric Worre and Cocah Stormy that strangers will be your biggest supporters. So I started growing my business to its full potential.
