Meet Ximena Olivera of Mexico and Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ximena Olivera

Hi Ximena, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Since I can remember, I´ve always wanted to act. I started with school musical theater when I was 5 years old in my hometown León, Guanajuato, participating in productions like Grease, The Lion King, Matilda, Hercules, among others. I dance jazz, tap and aerial dance, and I also sing.
When I was 16, I moved to Mexico City to start my acting studies at CEA (Centro de Educación Artística) at Televisa, a major television network in Mexico. I studied there for three years, and that’s when my professional career began. I started participating in various TV shows and telenovelas, like “La Desalmada, “Vencer la culpa”, I also worked on a television series called “Cuentos invertidos” , and “Violencia” an independent short film about violence in Mexico, among other things.
Last year I produced my first play. I have an emerging theater collective called “sanarteatro,” which is a group of women creating independent theater and seeking safe spaces to perform. Sanarteatro means healing theater and at that time was a way for us to heal. I love that about acting, you get to heal while you’re doing it and also the people who watch it can heal through the reflection. We produced a play that ran for three seasons and went on a tour to León, Guanajuato.
This year, I moved to Los Angeles to pursue my path in Hollywood, and I started studying at The Lee Strasberg Film and Institute, where I began to develop as a method actor. I’ve been in school for three months and returned to Mexico City to work on a TV show, but I’ll be back in January to continue my studies in Hollywood.
It’s been incredible to learn every day about this career; it’s been a journey of ups and downs, and a lot of patience, but it has all been worth it. I’m starting this beautiful journey and I am very excited about all the stories I’m going to tell.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There have been ups and downs; it’s a beautiful career and I fell in love with it right away. When I started working, my first year was wonderful, and I had a lot of work—I did television and theater. However, my second year was a bit more challenging. It was harder for me to book a job and I started to have a tough time with all the “no’s” I was receiving. I realized the instability that sometimes comes with this career, and the truth is that actors deal with those sad and desperate moments, we deal with a lot of NO´s but I like to think that with a no, there comes an opportunity too. Since then, I’ve come to understand that it’s a mix of everything; I’ve had great seasons of abundant work and others with more pauses. But I’ve accepted that this is part of it, and that I’m just starting out, with more opportunities to come. There are many characters I would have loved to play but I didn’t book them and that’s really frustrating, but still, I believe there’s a chance for everyone, and my stories will come. We have to learn to cope with rejection, trust in our passion, and work every day to become better actors.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an actress and producer, specializing in acting. I’ve also assisted in directing theater and television. My main drive is acting, and everything I’ve learned about the industry comes from my desire to act and explore this world further. What I’m most proud of is having created my own theater collective, allowing me to self-manage and work on what I love without depending on anyone else. For me, it’s crucial to work in safe spaces and to resist through my trench, which is acting. Producing my own work has allowed me to address topics that are important to me and has helped me heal significantly.
I enjoy occupying spaces that have long been denied to us as women and creating from a place of love and honesty, which fills me with pride.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
My instagram is ximena_olivera, there I have my reel, my resume, and my photo book. If anyone likes my work, I would be delighted to collaborate and create as a team. I would love to have more opportunities and auditions. I will always be open to casting calls and working with different people.
At the moment, I don´t have an agency, but I welcome any proposals via email “[email protected]
And the best way to help is going to the theater, to the movies and always supporting independent artists.
