Born in Chicago, growing up A-Way was taught to hustle or have nothing. Music has always been around A-WAY from his father being a DJ for different events surrounding the Chicagoland area to talent shows with his Uncle, to freestyle battles with his cousins, brother, and friends. After the passing of his brother who was his partner in crime & winning freestyle battles in college at Bethune Cookman University; A-Way was inspired to continue the dreams of him and his brother in becoming one of the most inspirational, motivational, and legendary artist in the industry today, with his eye capturing performance, smooth rapping style, and unique verbal picture painting lyrics, which has been viewed by millions as A-Way performed on a B.E.T. Network TV show. A-Way has also been featured in XXL Magazine as an “Artist To Watch’ & other top blog sites such as MTV.com, allhiphop.com, fakeshoredrive.com, worldstar.com, 247HH & more. Not only is he a recording artist, A-Way has also took steps into acting as he’s scored roles in FOX’s Network EMPIRE Tv Show, Chiraq 3 the movie, September Rayne & BRO the web series. We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, it’s been plenty of ups and down along the way. From the mix up of votes on BET or having to take some time from making music to actually learning the business to make sure I’m compensated properly. How different the industry vibe is from the independent vibe and learning how to maneuver through it.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I started HU$TLE WARD RECORD$, LLC to help artist with the knowledge I’ve learned but also change the course of history with inspirations from Cash Money, Maybach Music, No Limit & more. Also to establish balance in between major and independent partnerships. What sets us apart from other labels is not only our style but how we’re able to blend hip hop & R&B and give the world versatility and feel good vibes. We’re known from the way we hustle.
What were you like growing up?
Growin up was all survival & hustle stayin busy & out of trouble much as possible. I was into music early from my father being a DJ & my uncle putting on talent shows since the age of 7+. Outside of music I was really heavy into sports I played basketball, football, & baseball.
