Today we’d like to introduce you to Vizan Giri.
Hi Vizan , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
During high school, I began helping my father, Vik Giri, with his company, Gallant International, which supplies businesses with organic cotton promotional and retail products. Gallant International was ahead of the sustainability curve, forming direct relationships with farmers and workers. Visiting those partners in India taught me how much positive impact a company can create by doing business responsibly.
Through my work at Gallant International, I noticed that most bag and accessory brands relied on synthetic, fossil-fuel-based materials. That realization inspired Terra Thread, which we launched in 2017 with a few styles of organic cotton bags.
Now in 2025, we have launched our apparel line with the new brand name, Vottera. Vottera expands our mission beyond sustainable bags to offer beautifully crafted and ethically produced apparel made from Regenerative Organic Certified cotton. With a shared concern for the environmental and social impacts of fast fashion, we created a clothing line that supports the planet and its people. This starts with a passionate focus on Indian cotton farmers who, through Vottera, embrace regenerative organic agriculture for a better world.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It certainly hasn’t been a smooth road. Navigating the supply chain, in particular, is never easy. That said, we are approaching this challenge differently. Thanks to Gallant International’s mission and the dedication of our team over the years, we have been able to simplify a typically complicated supply chain. We are directly invested in our supply chain—a commitment that few brands can claim! Of course, this means our growth is slower, as we must carefully consider many factors along the way.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Vottera?
Last month, we launched an apparel line with the new brand name, Vottera. Vottera’s inaugural collection, featuring t-shirts, polo shirts, pullover hoodies, sweatshirts, and beanies, is made from Regenerative Organic Certified® cotton from the 2024 harvest in Odisha, India, where we have been working with 432 indigenous farmers who have chosen to vote for the Earth through their agricultural practices.
These farmers are part of a larger collective effort involving Terra Thread, Gallant International Inc., and now Vottera, encompassing over 1,250 ROC™ farmers across 3,400 acres in Odisha and Karnataka, India. Every piece is GOTS certified and made in Fair Trade Certified™ factories.
At Vottera, we work to live with the Earth and not on it. Our relationship to every piece of quality-crafted clothing we make begins with the care and respect given to the soil where the cotton was grown and continues through our community of wearers.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
