Today we’d like to introduce you to Vincent Jacquard.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born in the North of France and grew up in between Paris and the Normandy coast. As collectors, inventors, industrialists, travelers, physicians, and intellectuals, my family strongly influenced my foundation in design. The homes I was raised in were old and layered with collections of eclectic things from distant civilizations. We traveled in packs vacationing in Baden-Baden, Vienna, Milan, Venice, London, and to the coasts of Holland, Belgium, France, Spain and Italy.
At 15, I knew I wanted to live my life creating beautiful surroundings. I began to direct my studies towards Art History and the Decorative Arts, which lead me at 20 to my Grand Tour of Italy and Greece. I returned to Paris in 1971 to work for the famed textile company Staron, assembling fabrics for the Ready to Wear Collections for fashion designers Hubert de Givenchy, Yves Saint Laurent, Pierre Balmain to name a few, and to design a line of decorative objects with Archea in Milan, that we sold at the Dior Boutique on Ave Montaigne.
The following year, I began my position as Art Director for the architecture firm, Brillaud de Laujardière.
In 1974, I moved to Beirut to become the assistant of the interior designer, Sami al Khazen. We worked on homes for the Royal families of Jordan, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia in their countries and in Egypt, France and England.
The next chapter of my life bought me to California, where I have been living and working in Los Angeles ever since.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Has it been a smooth road? Is has been smooth and bumpy and everything in between. I would say that the biggest issue has been to find an audience that supports the liberal oriented themes in my work and to maintain a strong identity in an ever-growing see of sameness. I always say: “If it is conformism that you are looking for? I am not your guy.”
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Vincent Jacquard Design – what should we know?
I am known for my nonconformist flair, along with my discipline that is classical to the core and my love for vertical lines that emphasize volumes. Having a developed state of consciousness and being a good listener has helped in illustrating our client’s life stories compellingly in their homes. I think my background and constant cursorily in the future is strongly present in my designs, enabling us to build a bridge between yesterday and tomorrow, appealing to a clientele that possess a love for luxury and refinement as well as comfort.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I consider Georges Geoffroy, Henri Samuel, Didier Guichard, Yves Vidal, Michael Kursanskis and Sami al Khazen to have been my mentors.
