Meet Victoria Burkard of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Burkard

Hi Victoria, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
As a multifaceted artist, I’ve always been drawn to capturing and creating. In high school, I was the Web Team President, where I documented life at my school—whether through photography, sports coverage, or dramatic arts—and turned those moments into online galleries and website content. Being able to showcase my community through exploring it and documenting it always felt special to me. Looking back, that was my first real experience blending creativity with strategy, and it stuck with me.

I’ve always had a camera in my hand—whatever I do, I want to have memories to look back on. More than that, I love sharing and connecting with others by showing them how I see them through my lens. That passion naturally evolved into content creation and social media strategy, where I help brands and individuals tell their stories in ways that resonate. I also love teaching and sharing knowledge, and my curiosity about how things work has pushed me to continuously learn and refine my approach to branding, engagement, and digital communities. You can see my work featured on Instagram @beautywhoburns.

My community work evolved as my videos and social media presence began gaining traction. People started asking, ‘I see you everywhere, where’s the next hot event?’ That led me to research events to capture and collaborate with, which ultimately became the BWB Hotlist. The Hotlist highlights and showcases upcoming cannabis community events, allowing others to stay in the loop and promote the people doing things right in the industry. From there, I expanded into a website calendar that not only tracks these events but also provides ticket information, making it an all-in-one resource for the cannabis community at (www.BeautyWhoBurns.com)
I’ve also had the opportunity to collaborate with top industry brands like MJBizCon, Hall of Flowers, Stiizy, and Beard Brothers Media to showcase and interview the community that’s shaping the cannabis space.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road hasn’t been entirely smooth, but I’ve always embraced challenges as opportunities to grow. After being laid off from the pharmaceutical industry in late 2018, I broke my leg in early 2019, which forced me to reevaluate my career and focus on what I truly loved—creating. This period of personal struggle and reflection led me to pursue my passion for storytelling and content creation.

Building my brand from the ground up during such a challenging time was difficult, but it also gave me the resilience and perspective I needed to navigate the ever-changing landscape of industries like cannabis, beauty, and wellness. My experience in the pharmaceutical industry, where I had to work within strict regulations, taught me the importance of staying flexible and creative, even in the face of limitations. That ability to pivot and craft meaningful stories, despite regulatory restrictions, has been key to my success in these emerging industries.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
BeautyWhoBurns feels like a behind the scenes look at life in my industry. I specialize in creating content that stands out while adhering to heavily regulated guidelines, particularly in industries like cannabis. What sets me apart is my ability to balance creative content creation with strategic community engagement. I work closely with brands to craft thoughtful strategies that not only show off their products but highlight how they care about and contribute to their community. It’s about going beyond the surface—showing how a brand is interwoven with the lifestyle and culture it represents.

I also offer social media consulting, helping brands audit their online presence, create tailored P&Ps and SOPs for brand marketing, and train their teams to manage social media effectively. One of the most fulfilling parts of my work is the consistent creation of educational content, which not only informs but helps elevate brands within the culture.

Beyond strategy, my work is also rooted in artistic expression. My creative rolling content has become one of my most recognized forms of storytelling, blending craftsmanship with visual engagement. It’s a unique way to showcase the artistry and skill behind the culture, while also creating engaging, shareable content that resonates with the community.

I pride myself on blending corporate excellence with community-driven, authentic storytelling. I’m actively involved in the culture, documenting its evolution and interviewing the individuals who are at the forefront of advocacy and community building. This combination of strategy, consistency, creativity, and deep engagement is what makes my work stand out and what I’m most proud of.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
The ability to be resilient is necessary. Your vision will evolve, face obstacles, and sometimes require rebuilding—but that’s part of the process. Fall in love with building, learning, and adapting, because that’s what will sustain you when things get tough. Believe in your goals even if others doubt them or can’t see them yet.

One of the biggest lessons I learned was that my value isn’t defined by external validation. I once had a brand I deeply admired not see my worth in the way I had hoped. It was disappointing, but it also taught me that staying true to yourself is the most important thing.

Instead of dwelling on missed opportunities, I focus on where my purpose is calling me and align with the right people and brands who do recognize my value.

For those just starting out, my advice is this: Stay true to yourself, put in the work, and trust that the right opportunities will come when you show up authentically.
