Meet Vanessa Chaidez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Chaidez.

Hi Vanessa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Sweet Eats by V was created in 2014 when I needed extra money in between finding a new job. I continue to work a full-time job in customer service while running my baking business. I started baking when I was in high school and fell in love with creating delicious desserts. Now with SweetEats, I can continue to explore my love and passion for baking and offering it to others to sweeten up their lives.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being a small business owner has been a bumpy ride. The first few years, I rolled with the punches and in 2020 with the shut down, I had to figure out how to pivot my whole business model. The custom orders I had were canceled and any future orders were not coming in since no one was hosting parties or large gatherings. During that same time, the supply chain shortages began to take a toll. At one point there, before Christmas 2020, there was no chocolate available locally and what I could find was twice the price.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I offer fondant sugar cookies, cake pops, cupcakes, cake jars and a variety of chocolate-covered sweets. My fondant sugar cookies are not your average cookie. Most people think the fondant will be hard and the cookie will not have any flavor. When you bite into SweetEats sugar cookie, you will taste a delicious butter vanilla cookie with the perfect amount of vanilla fondant. The recipe I used for my cupcakes, cake pops & cake jars have been perfected over the last eight years. Every bite will leave you wanting more over the delicious dessert.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The baking industry and community is constantly changing and growing. Home bakers are becoming more popular and are starting to get more public recognition. In the next five years, we will mostly likely see an even larger group of home bakers.
