Today we’d like to introduce you to Valerie Pineda.
Valerie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m a Los Angeles based Wardrobe Stylist. I’m Originally from Texas but studied fashion in Los Angeles at The Art Institute of Hollywood. After school I realized that I had a passion for creating styles. I moved back to Texas and started working on movie sets and worked my way up quickly as a Costume Designer. After working on many productions and fashion shows I decided to come back to LA and attend The School of Style. The School of Style was a total game changer. That school has elevated my career more than I can ever dream or imagine. My styling career has been quite the journey. Its definitely not a over night success but it shows with hard work and dedication true creations are born.
Has it been a smooth road?
I wouldn’t necessarily say smooth but Ive had big opportunities come my way very quickly. With in my first month out here in LA my friend from Texas introduced me to her bosses girlfriend. Her boss was a big movie producer next thing I knew I was on my way to San Francisco to shoot a 8 week movie with Sharon Stone, Tommy Flanagan etc. Let me tell you I have never experienced pressure like that or worked so hard. I am so thankful for the big opportunities so quickly because I learned to adapt and take on major challenges. Each job gets more challenging because each one can take you to the next level. Lots of sleepless nights but I wouldn’t have had it any other way.
What role has luck had in your life and career?
Being an assistant has given me so much knowledge and experience but at the same time has held me back from bigger opportunities.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Jumping right in and giving it your best. Thinking quick on your feet and never complaining
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The diversity this city has to offer is so amazing. I love that there is so many opportunities in all aspects of work. We have the most interesting jobs and the people here really make it so unique. Parking that is the only bad thing I can say about this beautiful city I get to call home.
