Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Duraccio.
Hi Tyler, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My parents were in the American Armed Forces, so growing up I moved around a lot. I’ve lived in places like Germany, Japan, Colorado, Florida and now Los Angeles. Growing up, I played instruments like piano and guitar, but it wasn’t until I attended my first ever Electronic Dance Music event back in 2013 that I really wanted to pursue music. I felt wonder and euphoria like no other and I knew that this was something that I was meant to do. So in 2016, I decided to pack up everything, moved to Los Angeles and attend ICON Collective music school and I’ve been here ever since. There was a huge learning curve and culture shock when I got to LA. Even after already living in multiple countries/states, I would still consider LA to be a different beast entirely. My time here has most certainly had its ups and downs, but I wouldn’t change anything about it. I get to be here and live my dream of writing music.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has certainly not been a smooth road. I moved to Los Angeles in 2016 and this city has kicked my ass since then. Not just in my career but in my personal life as well. I don’t think that a career in music is ever a smooth road. Everyone has their own path and that path is going to be filled w obstacle after obstacle.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I used to write metal-inspired dance music, but I’ve expanded beyond just that and have turned my efforts and focus to drum n bass. I’m proud of having my music being played by big artists at festivals like “Lost Lands” and having my music believed in and signed by labels. What I am most proud of though, is having people message me on social media and say “I love your music! You are my favorite artist.” To have someone say that they enjoy my music and that its their favorite makes all of the struggles and hardships worth it.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
I think happiness is a subjective concept. What makes one person happy could make another completely miserable. For example, I LOVE cats. I love my own cat and I am so happy to have him. On the other hand, someone who’s deathly allergic to them probably isn’t too happy when one is around. While we have so many different things that make us happy, I think there is a shared similarity to all of them. It never comes from big things like living in a mansion or driving an expensive car. I think that happiness comes from the silent, small things in our lives that we forget and often take for granted like; a good conversation, a delicious meal, purpose, love, inspiration, creating, dancing, serving others and so much more.
