Today we’d like to introduce you to Tristan Parchman
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Well I started producing music when I was 17 and carried that into my college years. Once I was in college, I had all my friends and family saying “you gotta go into business, or journalism, or medicine, etc.” but none of those ever really clicked with me. The only thing that I was truly enjoying and being challenged with each day was music, so without telling any of my friends or family (at first) I decided to fully dive into studying popular music, music production and audio engineering as my undergraduate degree. After a long 4 years of taking countless performance classes, engineering classes, and production classes, I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Popular Music and Audio Production. At this point, it was the height of the pandemic and it was extremely hard for anyone to do anything with their lives, so I waited a year before moving to LA to see if the pandemic would fizzle out… I was wrong. I then decided I was done waiting and moved down here to go to the LA based music school Icon Collective College of Music where I studied everything music production, audio engineering, and songwriting. After finishing Icon’s music production program, I decided to go head first into my artist project “TORCHERRR”and ever since then, I have been making music for my project day in, day out to push it to the forefront of the bass music scene.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Life has had its up and downs for sure ever since I started making music. In those years, I’ve lost friends and family, I’ve gone through many mental health struggles, and even dealt with a lot of self doubt about my music and about myself as a whole. All those challenges were happening all while I was still trying to navigate myself through the jungle that is Los Angeles and the Los Angeles music scene.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a music producer, audio engineer, songwriter, sound designer, and DJ. I specialize in different sub genres of electronic dance music called dubstep and riddim. What my music is known for is the bounce and abstract rhythms I implement into each song. What I am most proud of is the fact I moved to a city of 10 million people from a small town in the middle of Oregon to pursue something that to most people, is an absolutely insane career choice, but I won’t stop until I get to where I want to be. I’m proud that I’m pursuing something that makes me truly happy in life. What sets me apart from the others is my abstract creativity and relentless urge to make songs and sounds that people really haven’t heard before.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
While I was young, I was all about sports and outdoorsy things. I played lacrosse for 12 years, I was skateboarding, BMX, rock climbing, mountain biking, free diving, etc. Anything that was outdoors that I could do with my friends, I was all in. I was an extremely outgoing yet slightly reserved kid growing up as I dealt with a lot of self confidence issues, this is why I threw myself into so many sports, so that I could try to get out there and try to get out of my shell. I was lucky enough to grow up with an extremely supportive and loving family, they supported me in whatever I set out to do, as they continue to do today with my music. The biggest reason for why I wanted to get into creating music was because of my Dad. He showed me hundreds if not thousands of different kinds of music growing up. Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, and Metallica were just a few of the bands that would really shape the way I look at music today. If it wasn’t for my Dads extreme passion for music and my families unwavering support to do what makes me most happy in life, I don’t know if I would be a musician today.
