Today we’d like to introduce you to Tripped N Sat. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Tripped N Sat is a music duo consisting of Jason Hines and Parichay Nathani. We met in 2019 at an Airbnb Jason hosted in Koreatown, Los Angeles. After a year of writing and producing music together, Tripped N Sat was born in 2020. We both come from vastly different musical and cultural backgrounds, which has allowed us to develop a new and refreshing sound. We describe our music as a unique blend of alt/pop, R&B, electronic, and chillwave music. But overall just music that feels like summer.
Due to the pandemic, Parichay had to move back to India as the visa renewals were closed. We have released pretty much most of our catalogue from across the world, including two EPs; ‘K-Town Experiments’ and ‘Afters’. Finally, on Thanksgiving of 2023, Parichay secured his US Artist Visa and flew back to Los Angeles. We are pumped to be back in the studio together!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Working from across the world and in opposite time zones had its challenges, from sending sessions back and forth to writing a single demo taking 2-3 days. It was hard to capture the ‘in-the-moment” emotions through this process. It was always an ultra-produced out emotion emailed out to one another. But now being back together in the studio has helped us write much better music and produce visual content.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We found our passion in studio work, ranging from production and writing to mastering and distributing songs. The act of going into the studio with just an idea or nothing at all and leaving with a full song is the greatest feeling. Our musical journey has been shaped by diverse backgrounds and influences, resulting in a unique fusion that sets us apart. We have successfully contributed to the success of artists associated with major labels such as Atlantic, Universal, and Interscope. At Tripped N Sat Studios, we have created a dynamic music production studio based in the heart of Koreatown, Los Angeles. We offer a comprehensive range of services, including songwriting, production, and engineering, covering everything from inception to the final mix and master.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
The career path we have chosen is an unconventional one. It’s hard to get established and make a name for yourself in music, but we truly believe that good songs will be heard. Whether it is our artist project or someone else that we work with and produce for, something will give eventually. It’s easy to get caught up in the numbers and see what big records people are working on, but we both moved away from home to meet up here and chase the dream together. In some ways, the risk has already been taken, and we are doing our best to justify the risk now. But we find joy in creating music no matter how big or small the artist is and know that it is a marathon, not a sprint.
In 2024, we plan to release more music than ever, starting with “new escape” dropping in March. The song covers the feelings and struggles of pursuing an unconventional life, and we plan to shoot a music video on foot in Koreatown, visiting small businesses in an attempt to showcase other people believing in their art. Whatever kind of art it may be.
