Meet Tricia Cleppe and Sterling Cates of The Women Wave in Venice

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tricia Cleppe and Sterling Cates.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Tricia and Sterling. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
The Women Wave came to be when we realized we weren’t the only women craving authentic conversations about our experiences. As long-distance best friends in constant communication (bless you, FaceTime) about our lives and the world around us, we decided to make our private conversations public, creating space for other women to be just as vulnerable and supported. With so much going on right now, we figured we couldn’t be the only ones trying to figure it all out. We were right — and the best thing happened, now we get to do it with all of YOU!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The creative side of things has been pretty natural for us and we love working together! The trickiest part of starting a media-based business is monetization…how do you go from creating cool things to getting enough people to listen or read it or getting people to pay to sponsor your message?

Plus there are the things we had no control over. We were actually planning our first in-person event in Los Angeles on March 21st and, well, COVID had other plans.

Overall, we’re really lucky to be doing this with each other and to have multiple streams of income to get us through tricky situations.

Please tell us about The Women Wave.
The Women Wave is a multimedia creative house that produces empowered content for women. At TWW, we encourage women to authentically connect and get involved in the world around them. In addition to an online community of women and in-person events (in a non-COVID world), we have a weekly podcast that comes out every Thursday that covers everything from personal experiences to politics, pop culture, and more. Each week, you can expect a bold, inspiring, and unfiltered conversation. Plus a cute merch shop!

And in the COVID-world, we have done a handful of virtual events as well, ranging from a session with a world-renowned life coach to a letter-writing party to get out the vote.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Thought about monetization early. We went into thinking, “We want to create and a podcast is something realistic we can do right now, with what we have.” And we’re really proud of us for just STARTING. Sometimes in this life, we don’t even try. So we won’t discount that method of launch it broken, fix it live. But yes, if we could go back monetization would be top of mind.
