Meet Travis Dobson of Compound® in San Fernando Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Travis Dobson.

Originally from Madison, Wisconsin, Compound was born with Sicilian and Irish heritage. His upbringing as a child was not normal being a white kid growing up in the hood and a product of a hustler traveling around the country with his father. This was a strong influence on the artists’ perspective of the world and the life around him.

Compound discovered a passion for music at a young age. He started rapping and found that he had a talent for the business side of the industry. Compound began throwing exclusive parties with established rap artists and he quickly forged lasting connections and bonds in the business. A lot of shootings at His events caused him to go a different direction in His career as venues in the city would not allow hip-hop music anymore due to the violence. After a year of being involved in the industry, he was indicted on federal drug charges. When He came home from a three years sentence compound began to pursue the business side of things again.

He started managing a DJ/producer from Madison named “DJ Pain 1”. Soon after, Compound started traveling to New York City, Miami and Los Angeles to work with a slew of different talent which included Rappers, Producers, Songwriters, DJ’s, such as Meek Mill, Ty Dolla $ign, The Game, Jim Jones, Dizze Rascal, Dr Luke, DJ Mustard, Alex Da Kid, Scott Storch, and Araab Muzik to name a few. He focused on developing and managing talent, diving deeper into the music scene. Taking all this knowledge and expertise He began to create his own music.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing has ever been smooth. Coming from a broken home and being one of the only white kids in the hood was not easy. Fighting and getting in trouble at school began to become regular for him until High school when He started selling drugs. He then turned to the life of crime getting more involved in gangs and drugs. He managed to still graduate high school on time and went to college. He paid for His college degree by selling drugs and was really successful in doing so. His popularity grew in the city as being one of the guys who was doing big things. That came to an end shortly after graduating college with a 3.8 GPA and making the dean’s list he was indicted on federal drug charges. His best friend ended up telling on him and he was sentenced to 34 months in federal prison.

Compound® – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Compound is an official trademarked brand in music and clothing. Being an American rapper, songwriter, producer and music manager based in Los Angeles, I also am a clothing designer and film director. I’m most known in the Music industry for my ear and I’m the hood Ralph Lauren in the clothing world and just getting started in film. Located in Los Angeles, California, Compound® is composed of three internal divisions: Compound Music, Compound Films, and Compound Clothing.

I’m most proud of being so diverse in the music industry. I carry a wide range of all the aspects in the music industry and can actual create all genres. What sets me apart from others is I can carry myself in so many different ways. Being able to adapt to any situation and any place. I’m still one of the only guys from my city who gets real respect. I can go to the hood or the richest neighborhoods and I pride myself in being real. My life is not fake like a lot of these other rappers. My clothing company is the most successful urban brand from Wisconsin. Being in several retail stores.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Honestly, I don’t have a proudest moment yet. Every time I reach a certain level, it is never good enough. I keep striving for greatness and to succeed more.
