Today we’d like to introduce you to Tony Ramirez
Hi Tony, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Over the years my family has worked in multiple jobs, with that being in different locations of the city. Riding on a bus, train, or simply walking throughout the city was very common. Growing up in poverty watching my mother make ends meet for my siblings and I, we experienced similar yet a unique life of appreciation. Living in a one bedroom with an older sister and brother was crowded, yet I got different life lessons taught to me. Naturally watching them I learned the importance of a hobby and personal space. When i was about 14 high school freshman when I was given a ‘Canon powershoot elph 300 hs’. Sounds Fancy, but very insignificant as far as quality of a point and shoot digital camera. With that I began my endless chase of photography and capturing moments. Although rough patches during this time, I appreciated moments that were lonely, fear filled, anxious, joyful etc. I was a teenager, soon to become Highschool dropout although not wasting my time. I became a graffiti writer, a pseudonym to support my bad habits trespassing , taking photos of every moment, wall, floor, skyline, view, day by day filling my memory card with new sights. Using instagram as my main social media, that became my new outlet. Since 2012 teaching myself everything I know now, no courses or classes only hours upon hours of experience. As of this year 2024 I shoot Professionally, I am for hire. Car communities have welcomed me in open arms as that is my main customers currently. Although I can dabble in any line of photography.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
low income, becoming a drop out and losing valuable time chasing obsessions . Working multiple minimum wage jobs. Being profiled by police, going to funerals for people I met in my journey, still do unfortunately. I spend most of my days Stressing about account balances or how I can expand to network. reaching out multiple businesses for sponsorship type deals.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I began as a Street Photographer, bit over a decade I have mastered my trade. I am now a freelance photographer. all-purpose photography. As of now I have ventured into Car photography. I am proud of my journey that has led me to having multiple chances to learn every single moment. I’d say what sets me apart is perspective, venturing and pushing limits to where others cannot fathom, true dedication.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
