Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiphanie Sampson
Tiphanie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have enjoyed party decor since my now 19 year old son’s 1st birthday. I would decorate for family events, birthdays, baby showers etc…but never really pursued a business in the industry. It was always a scary thought to me. I’m use to stability, being employed by a company for almost 18 years. After child number 5 I finally got the courage to get a business license, start a social media page and start offering my services in party planning and decor along with customizing hats, shoes, jackets, cups etc… with crystals.
I was really pushed to start my business after having my now 1 year old. I dealt with some things in my life emotionally that I never dealt with before after having a kid. And because I was so fearful of the unknown I pushed myself to go through the steps of starting my party decor business. It’s one of those, “If I knew then what I know now, I would have started it 19 yeas ago.” The things you fear the most is where your success will come from. And because God said not to fear in his word 365 times. I know it wasn’t from him. So everything I feared, I did. I’ve officially been a license business owner for a little over a year now.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My struggles I would say is more in my thoughts. Will I succeed, where will my customers cone from, the downtime when business isn’t steady. When I have been busy back to back I truly believe God sent me every customer. My cousin owns Balloon life party rentals and she was kind enough to show me the basics of assembling balloons but there’s so much more to the business. The creativity part with balloons and even the assembling came naturally for me because of how long I’ve been doing parties for families and friends. But the business side of it was another thing. I had never booked an event before with someone I didn’t know. Pricing was difficult and people in the balloon/party decor business aren’t necessarily giving you all the info you need. I had never used an invoice system before. I had to familiarize myself with it. Learning how to create them as I go. Another thing I knew nothing about were contracts between the customers and Tiphs Decor. The wording; I knew what I wanted to say but didn’t know how to say it. Thankfully I have a friend who is the nonprofit Leader of DreamSickle Kids and she really walked me through the process of starting my business email, my signature, contract language etc…
There are still so many things I need to do and learn. I have to admit, I do get discouraged not having a steady customer base. But I truly love party planning, from shopping for the theme to my vision coming to life on the day of the event…oh and don’t give me full creative directive because I’m really going to have fun with it!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a party decorator and I specialize in balloon and party decor.
I also embellish things, like hats, cups, shoes etc…Something I started over 10 yrs ago but stopped until more recently.
I love to be given a theme and make it all come together all the way down to the outfit worn to the event. I haven’t gotten to that level of event planning but its in me and I’m excited to see how far I can go in this business. I’m proud of the mother I am. I’m proud of my children and husband. And my faith in God. When asked what sets me apart from others, my first thought is this scripture, 1John 4:4. I pray about everything that I do. Before I start planning, while I’m in the midst of ideas during my planning process and right before I set up on the day of an event.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
My favorite app is “The Bible app”. I use it every day. And of course my favorite book would be the Bible and Joyce Meyers, Battlefield of the Mind. The bible keeps me grounded and hopeful and allows me to reflect back on Gods promises, apply them to my day to day task, encounters and trials. Battlefield of the Mind is a great book with great examples of things people deal with in day to day life and the mind battles that can come with it.
Here are a few scriptures that help me on my daily journey;
-Psalms 91
-Jeremiah 29:11
-Jeremiah 33:3
-Deuteronomy 28:12
-1 Corinthians 15:58
-Luke 6:27-36
-Matthew 6: 9-13
-Philippians 4:6-9
