Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanya Sandoval.
Hi Tanya, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started In Him Construction Inc after I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and was not able to work a normal 9-5 job. I always wanted to start up my own business, but I was afraid of failing and being a woman in my industry I felt as if I was always getting passed up when higher positions were available to men who knew less than me. My husband Raymond Mendoza has been in construction for about 25 years, and I was in logistics/distribution and account management for about the same timeframe. We both knew we wanted to help people and needed a change in our lives and decided to take a leap of faith in ourselves, so Raymond took his contractors state licensing board test, and we created In Him Construction Inc as him as our general contractor and me as the CEO who manages the day-to-day office work. We are a family-owned and operated business who have had our sons work with us, my sister-in-law and brother-in-law and even our daughter created the logo for our company. We are a faith-based company as there are too many dishonest contractors out there making a bad name for the rest of us. We believe in educating our customer/homeowners of areas to save money on their projects and what is needed or what can be done. Our goal is to provide as much information as possible and treat you with the utmost respect and care. Our company relies on referrals, maintaining operations through honesty, reliability, knowledge, and trustworthiness. We aim to exceed the standard contractor expectations, focusing on building lasting customer relationships.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We had some struggles in the beginning after we started up our company right before covid where we didn’t add to our contract if there was force majeure that would change the prices of material like covid when all materials skyrocketed and since we started a room addition around that time we ended up losing money due to the rising of prices and not being able to update our pricing based on the new pricing since the contract was signed already. This led to having to get cash advances to keep our guys working. That situation to this day left us in high debt trying to keep moving forward. We have made all our payments on time, but it’s been a ripple effect that we have not been able to get out of. It seems the cash flow to keep my company running is what the biggest struggle has been as those cash advances has taken away most of our profit and finding reliable help who actually know what they say they know. It’s been hard over the years, but we have faith things will turn around for us.
As you know, we’re big fans of In Him Construction Inc. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are a construction company who work on both commercial and residential properties. We offer a range of services like maintenance, repairs, remodeling, ADU, tenant improvement, framing, stucco and pretty much anything construction related. We like to call ourselves a one stop shop who can handle all areas of your project with all licensed and insured trades if needed. We usually do all work inhouse unless it’s a new electrical panel, new piping or new roof. All other areas we can handle. We have noticed over the years the request for bathrooms and kitchen remodeling and for our kitchen remodels the shaker style cabinets have been a popular selection. When working with us we understand the importance of trust, commitment, schedules and attention to details. Our team is dedicated to providing you with the highest level of respect and service when working in your space. We are licensed, insured and bonded as we feel it’s important to protect both our customers and us when working on properties. It would be an honor to allow us to surpass your expectations and make your construction dreams come true.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
We like that cities offer grant programs to help people who are not able to afford the work themselves. We hope to work more with nonprofits in the city to help those in need but also help us keep food on our workers table to feed their families. Starting this business has always been about building relations and helping people along the way. I do not like how high the city fees on permits can be for owners, but we understand it helps the city grow.
