Meet Tamia Wells

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Tamia Wells. Tamia was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented Chrissy Goobache.

Hi Tamia , we’re so thrilled to have you sharing your story with us today. Maybe we can kick things off by having you introduce yourself to our readers? We’d love to have you go into your story and how you got to where you are today.
It all started from when I was a child (growing up in Washington, DC). More so, around the age of 7. Thats when my younger brother was born with autism and life seemed to get a little harder. I just remembering praying, asking the Lord for wisdom. I remembering staring out of the window, wishing that I could transform into a bird and fly away. A couple of years later (at 12) I found my hustle and that’s when life started to take a turn. I shortly realized that I had a knack for cosmetology and doing hair was like second nature to me. While other children my age were focused on riding bikes and playing outside, I was focused on collecting cash. I started practicing on family members, friends and neighbors and then eventually my clientele started to grow. In the 80’s, I charged $15 a head. That was a lot for a child, and it was simpler times then. Little did I know, everything that I knew about life was about to change.

At the age of 14, I conceived a son and in the 3rd month of my pregnancy, his father was tragically murdered. Life as I knew it, was never same. I didn’t have much time to grieve all the changes I was experiencing because I had a son to raise. It was hard, but he gave me the motivation and the strength to hustle harder. All of my doubters and naysayers expected me to fail and give up. A lot of people (even family) thought that I would be nothing. According to them I was already a statistic, but none of their imaginations or minds could have guessed where I would end up and neither could I.

I was practicing cosmetology since since the 80’s, but I graduated cosmetology school (valedictorian) in 2004. Almost 20 years later. During this time, I was at the peak of my career. I won several awards, was a celebrity stylist, worked with big productions like BET and Bronner Bros, had hundreds of Black Hair Sophisticates Magazine publications and was well known around my city. With so much success, the only thing left to do was to start my own business. In 2011, I started an image consultant business titled Debonair Image Consultants. I was finally living out my dreams and walking in my purpose.

Please tell us more about your brand, Cruzn Cozy Records
I am the co-founder of Cruzn Cozy Records. We are an independent record label who focuses of community outreach, youth outreach, artist development, entertainment business, sync placement and informational networking events. What sets us apart from others is we strive to put our artist first. Our main focus is to make sure that our artist are properly educated in the industry so that they will never be taken advantage of. Unlike other labels, all business that we conduct is fair and mutually beneficial. Im most proud of thriving in the music/entertainment industry as a black women and having a business with my family.

So, as we mentioned to our audience earlier, you were introduced to us by Chrissy Goobache and we really admire them and what they’ve built. For folks who might not be as familiar, can you tell them a bit about your experience with Chrissy.
Chrissy is the main artist at Cruzn Cozy Records, who specializes in Theatrical RNB and Jazz. Chrissy wears a lot of hats, not only is she my artist but she is also the Co-founder of CCR and she is my daughter. I admire Chrissy because she is a product of the best part of me. As a child, I supported and nurtured her many talents. When you see a child that shines bright, you can’t help but to love them. Chrissy is tenacious, driven, creative, hardworking and enterprising. She is a well-rounded human being who is Godly and fair and I love working with her (and no my opinion on her is not bias).
