Tamara, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m Tamara Tihanyi-Knausz, the owner and photographer behind TihanyiPhoto. My journey into photography has been deeply influenced by my own experiences in the entertainment industry. Before stepping behind the camera, I worked as a commercial model and actress, which gave me firsthand insight into what agents and casting directors are looking for in standout headshots.

Over a decade ago, I transitioned into photography with a specific focus on capturing children’s headshots. Being a mom of kids who have also navigated the entertainment industry, I’ve developed a unique skill set and an ability to connect with young clients. This combination of personal and professional experience has shaped my approach and helped me earn a reputation as one of Los Angeles’ trusted headshot photographers.

I’m passionate about helping my clients succeed by delivering images that truly capture their essence. Watching them achieve their goals—whether landing roles in TV shows, movies, commercials, or campaigns—brings me immense pride and joy.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been an easy road, but it’s been an incredibly rewarding journey. Building my business to the point where I could rely on it as my primary source of income took about five years. With so many talented photographers in the competitive Los Angeles market, establishing a solid clientele was no small feat. However, by staying consistent, delivering great results, and focusing on my clients’ success, I was able to carve out my place.

One of the biggest advantages of this career path has been the flexibility it offers. It gave us the opportunity to create our own schedule, allowing for family travel and time together whenever we wanted. That freedom has been one of the most rewarding aspects of running my own business.

Looking back, every challenge along the way was worth it. Building TihanyiPhoto has been a labor of love, and I’m incredibly proud of what it has grown into today.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in headshots and modeling photography, with a focus on children and young actors. Drawing from my own background in modeling and acting, I have a deep understanding of what casting directors look for and work to create headshots that authentically capture each client’s unique essence.

What truly sets me apart is my ability to make kids feel at ease in front of the camera. I create a comfortable and fun environment where their natural confidence and personality can shine. My perfectionist approach ensures every detail is just right, and I tailor each session to the specific needs of my clients, offering a personalized and professional experience.

What I’m most proud of is helping my clients succeed. Watching their careers take off, knowing the headshots I’ve created played a role in their journey, is incredibly rewarding and fuels my passion for what I do.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5-10 years, while technology like AI and advanced editing tools will continue to shape the industry, I believe authentic, real headshots will remain essential. While AI-generated images may have their place, there’s no substitute for the genuine connection and natural expressions that come from an in-person photoshoot.

Clients will increasingly seek headshots that reflect their true selves—real, unfiltered, and natural. The demand for authentic images that capture emotion and personality will only grow, as casting directors and agents continue to value genuine portrayals over overly polished or artificial representations.

Ultimately, while technology will play a role, nothing can replace the value of a true, personal headshot and the human connection that connects with the viewer and accurately represents who you are.
