Today we’d like to introduce you to T J.
T J, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Well, it all started by just putting a Simple player design on a t-shirt and selling merch to only the homies. The feedback was crazy, people started giving me all types of ideas to run with and wanted to invest in me and etc. I slowly started to build a team to help me succeed in the areas I wasn’t too strong in like photography & marketing. Eventually decided to cut the middle man out and start actually printing our own clothes using screen printing machines as well as dtg. Now, this is our first year selling online and we’re still trying to get the hang of things but it’s an incredible experience all along being able to express ourselves through streetwear in a player way of course.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Hell, no this entrepreneur shit is not for the weak. I’ve had manufacturing problems to where I paid them for a design and they embroidered the wrong color “PLAYER” on a hoodie and in my eyes I wasted my money and it had set me back on what I was really going for, Not all but some of your homies will start to hate that you actually doing something for yourself and actually being successful at it will hurt a lot of people. Sometimes it’ll be days or weeks without anybody Placing an order and I had to suck it up and face it. Very frustrating, I tell you.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Westside Players Club – what should we know?
I basically make sure everything goes how it’s supposed to go. If this business fails, it’s all on me. I do the screen printing for all our simple designs, design most of our content, direct photo shoots, network with other companies, handle all shipping and handling, etc. Anything I can’t do my partner Jovanie Falcon handles. He’s like the backbone of the company. As a company, we don’t feel there’s anything to really be proud about at this very moment because we’re still not where we want to be just yet.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Our supporters deserve the most credit in our success for continuing to buy our merchandise through any circumstances.
