Today we’d like to introduce you to Steve Samuelian.
Steve, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My wife and I founded California Consulting in 2004. California Consulting is a grant writing company that specializes in serving cities, school districts, colleges, special districts, and non-profits. Our objective was to bring funding to high need entities that serve the public.
Since we opened California Consulting has grown into the largest grant writing company in the State. We have more than 30 team members and contracts with agencies statewide from San Diego County in the South to the Bay Area.
Our grant writers have written more than 875 competitive federal, state, and private foundation grant applications that have been awarded/funded.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Any small business will face some challenges. We have a dedicated and effective team of managers and grant writers across the State that allows us to be effective in meeting the needs of our clients.
Please tell us about California Consulting.
We are very proud of our grant writers that labor intensively to write complex grant applications. We are also proud of our management team composed of Director of Communications Shasta Bell, Director of Operations Dan Rodriguez, and Statewide Senior Director Holly Bachman. The management team works tirelessly to keep the company on track.
There is a great deal of satisfaction to know that we have provided CNG buses for students to get to school and new playground equipment for parks in underprivileged communities. We have helped our environment by funding hybrid and electric vehicles for public agencies. We have also obtained funding for police and fire departments all over the State.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Growing up not too far from Dodger Stadium and going to many baseball games to watch my favorite team. Dodger Stadium is the most beautiful baseball stadium in the World. I very much enjoyed listening to Dodgers announcer Vin Scully and Lakers announcer Chick Hearn on the radio doing play by play. I knew at the time, I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to listen to two of the best sports announcers in history all during my childhood.
