Today we’d like to introduce you to Slowsie.
Hi Slowsie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Endless River Studios began as expression of my passion for music and community during my college days in Philadelphia. It all started with basement shows – a lot of them. In my first summer alone, I organized nearly 40 shows. This initiative quickly evolved into a brand for these gatherings, and I began recording live sessions called ‘Shanty Sessions’. By the time COVID-19 hit, halting these activities, I had hosted over 100 shows and recorded about five sessions.
During the pandemic, I officially incorporated Endless River as an LLC, transitioning it into an indie record label to release my music and helping my friend Josh, known as Lazyacres, release his debut EP. My vision for Endless River expanded further as I started ‘Abstract Essence’, a blog and podcast where I interviewed diverse artists, exploring the essence of art through one pivotal question: “What is art?”
Post-college life and a 9-5 job led to a period of burnout, and most of my creative endeavors took a backseat, except for music releases. However, after moving back to LA in late 2022, I reignited Endless River by organizing backyard shows in Altadena. This resurgence was met with challenges, including restrictions from landlords and neighbors, prompting me to seek new venues for events.
A chance meeting with S.C. Mero during the DTLA Art Walk at her studio/gallery, Something Poetic, opened new doors. This led to the creation of ‘Something Musical’, a monthly event series on the first Thursday of each month now approaching its 9th installment. Additionally, playing gigs around town with my band has been instrumental in expanding my network, leading to more event opportunities like IndiePulse at Daddy Diamonds (first Saturday of every month), a venue I discovered through connections made in the music scene.
As we step into 2024, my focus is on taking Endless River to new heights. Leveraging my professional background in product marketing, I’m working on projects that blend my expertise with my love for events and community building. The goal is to evolve Endless River from indie concerts to large-scale event production and experiential design for brands, ultimately making it a profitable venture that I can dedicate myself to full-time.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey with Endless River has been far from smooth, marked by several significant challenges. One of the most daunting has been dealing with burnout and the complexities of life. As a young entrepreneur in my twenties, maintaining focus amidst a whirlwind of great ideas has been a tough balancing act. Financial stability was another hurdle. Coming from a background where my parents faced their own struggles, I didn’t have a financial safety net to fall back on. Even now that I’ve managed to secure a job with a decent salary, a significant portion of my monthly budget goes towards student loans and debts from putting many months of college rent on my credit cards that I always feel like I’m playing catchup. The silver lining to that situation is that it keeps me motivated, and I don’t get too comfortable with my 9-5 because I simply need to work harder if I want to dig myself out.
COVID-19 was a major setback. It hit just as I was gaining momentum – hosting or playing at 2-3 shows a week and really hitting my stride. The pandemic brought everything to a screeching halt, and it’s taken years to rebuild that momentum, now managing to organize 2-3 shows a month.
However, the heart of my journey has been about embracing failure as a learning opportunity. I’ve come to understand that failing isn’t a setback; it’s an integral part of the learning process. This mindset has been crucial in my growth. I love learning and growing, so I’ve learned to appreciate failing, too. It’s through these failures that I’ve gained invaluable insights and experiences, shaping both me and Endless River into what we are today.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Endless River is more than just a business; it’s a platform dedicated to nurturing and showcasing independent and up-and-coming artists. At our core, we specialize in creating immersive, experiential events that not only entertain but also foster deep connections and community. We’re known for our unique approach to event production, where every detail is meticulously crafted to enhance the experience and support emerging talent.
Our latest initiative, ContentParty, exemplifies this ethos. It’s a dynamic event platform that blends live brand experiences with professional content creation tailored to specific demographics. This service is designed for marketing decision-makers and businesses looking to enhance their social media presence and engage more directly with their target audience. ContentParty stands out for its customized approach, ensuring that each event resonates with the intended audience and offers authentic brand experiences.
Additionally, we’ve partnered with Fotologistics to offer a unique service for brands. We provide high-quality photo and video assets at no cost in exchange for the ability to use that footage as stock for Getty Images. This collaboration allows us to support brands in enhancing their visual content while also contributing to our stock library, a win-win for both parties.
What sets Endless River apart is our commitment to the artistic community. We’re not just about organizing events or creating content; we’re about building a platform where artists can thrive and where brands can connect with their audience in meaningful ways.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of how we’ve managed to stay true to our mission of supporting independent artists while evolving our services to meet the changing needs of the market. Our ability to adapt, innovate, and still maintain our core values is something that I believe truly sets us apart.
For our readers, I want you to know that Endless River is a place where creativity meets opportunity. Whether you’re an artist looking for a stage, a brand seeking to elevate your marketing, or an individual wanting to experience something truly unique, we have something for you. Our offerings are designed not just to meet expectations but to exceed them, creating experiences that linger long after the event is over.
What are your plans for the future?
As we look to the future, Endless River is excited about expanding and evolving in ways that stay true to our mission while embracing new opportunities. Our primary focus is on scaling up our event production capabilities. We’re planning to move beyond indie concerts and dive into larger-scale event production and experiential design, particularly for brands. This shift will allow us to create even more immersive and impactful experiences, reaching a broader audience while still providing a platform for independent artists.
Another major development is the integration of my professional background in product marketing with our event services. This fusion aims to bring a more strategic and data-driven approach to how we design and execute events, ensuring that they not only captivate audiences but also deliver tangible results for participating artists and brands.
Content-wise, we’re excited to continue growing our ContentParty initiative. The goal is to make it a leading platform in the industry for brands seeking innovative marketing solutions. We’re also looking to expand our collaboration with Fotologistics, further bridging the gap between high-quality content creation and brand marketing needs.
Overall, what I’m most looking forward to is seeing Endless River become a beacon for creative and innovative event production, a place where art, technology, and marketing converge to create unforgettable experiences. We’re not just planning events; we’re crafting memories and building a community that thrives on creativity and connection.
