Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaquelyn Huerta.
Jaquelyn Huerta was born in Fontana, California, and raised in Highland California. She began practicing the art of makeup at age fourteen. She played all day in the mirror until night fell. As the years went by she had a daughter and decided to attend a community college and work a part time job to provide for her family. She always wanted to go full time with the makeup industry but was discouraged because she had a child. When her daughter was in school age she finally decided to follow her dream of being a makeup artist.
Jaquelyn freelanced for a couple years and then in 2014 she attended TNT Agency in Chino Hills, CA to perfect her skills and gain the knowledge of today’s trends from celebrity makeup artist/instructor, Alejandra Barraza. Through the agency she received a gruesome amount of experience and had the opportunity to be apart of the LA Fashion Week for Project Ethos and Fashion Corner in Hollywood, CA, along with the LA Women’s Expo held at the Los Angeles Convention Center, the 2014 Latin Grammys in Las Vegas, Nevada, and the 2015 Latin Billboards held in Miami, Florida. She then realized that the fast paced life is what she was born to live for.
Has it been a smooth road?
My career path has not been as smooth as I thought. After moving to Los Angeles for a year I’ve learned this industry is its own little world. There so many amazing makeup artists that you have to make sure you keep your own individuality. Being a makeup artist is defiantly a hustle and you have to keep on going in order to be successful nothing is a handout . The best advise I can give is accept constructive criticism , keep your creativity strong and never give up.
What is the most difficult part of what you do?
The hardest part of my job is staying away from your family on weekends, being gone for all or partial of holidays and some back pain
What are you striving for, what criteria or markers have you set as indicators of success?
Success to me is reaching your goal you have set for your self to achieve. For an example when I know I’ve reached success will be when I have gained so much clientele that I am able to run my own business such as a makeup bar or a traveling glam team.
So, what should we be on the lookout for, what’s next in store for you?
my plans for the future is to keep persevering towards my goal. Once that is achieved I’m sure I will find another project to add on.
