Hi Shelly, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I always wanted to be an actor since I was a child. I was drawn to the magical meshing of worlds and loved creating characters. I did some school plays and attended an alternative arts high school with my main focus being Theater Arts. I continued taking acting classes, but my free spirit took me around the world. I did some humanitarian projects along the way that really spoke to me and worked in education.
I booked some roles in local indie projects before moving to Los Angeles from Minneapolis, MN. I was also involved in casting and had the opportunity to work on some creative projects working alongside seasoned professionals who have been in the business for years. This helped me learn and understand more about the whole process of filmmaking.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Pursuing acting definitely has its challenges. I think the balance of being available to audition at the drop of a hat while still maintaining a job to support yourself is a tricky dance.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m definitely a risk-taker in life and as an actor. I love exploring new territory and trying new things. I feel like this can help break up the monotony and help scenes feel fresh. I love comedy and that it allows us to embrace our imperfections as humans. I just started taking classes at UCB and let me tell you, I’m in love!! I’m also currently auditioning for TV shows and films.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love that LA is this eclectic mix of people from all walks of life and that individuality is embraced. Drum roll: I dislike the traffic…
