Meet Shelby Nolan of Green Leaf Designs in Huntington Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelby Nolan.

Shelby, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Green Leaf Designs was started in 2001. I always had a passion for growing and cutting flowers. Buying flowers and arranging them at home for friends and family. After taking a class at a local flower shop and learning I could actually do this for a living I quickly emerged myself in the floral world. While working for flower shops and taking floral design collages courses, I was obsessed with anything flower related. It was like a whole new world opened up to me and couldn’t get enough. I feel so truly lucky to have found my calling. Getting to work with brides and clients learning their style, creating their floral designs and seeing them fall in love what I love so much is such a rewarding feeling!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I think we are pretty lucky and haven’t had any real obstacles, I have learned the hard way I have my own standards and quality of flowers and looks I prefer to work with. I do pride myself on working with every bride’s budget to give them their dream wedding. As long as they are realistic when it comes to prices. Unfortunately, flowers greens and time does cost money and I do my best to price everything fairly.

Green Leaf Designs – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We were started with the goal of offering beautiful events at an affordable price. We specialize in weddings and also do events and anything flower related. But weddings is where we shine. Not only do brides and grooms get everything they ordered from us we love to go out of our way and put little finishing touches of flowers threw out their entire wedding. Floral embellishments threw out. All of our clients say “My wedding was even better then what they imagined it would be!” And that’s what I strive for now. Hearing that makes me so proud and happy!

Our services also include rentals for all our customers florals needs. We have a large collection of everything you could dream of and then some to make a client’s wedding uniquely theirs! From arches to votives we have it and everything in-between!

In additions to weddings we did the US open of surfing for 3 years. To do the flowers for such a huge event was so much fun! Making the leis for the winners and putting a flower lei on Kelly Slater was an amazing surreal moment, being up on the stage with the winners in front of hundreds of fans was something I’ll never forget!

We are also proud of doing the flowers for the late Paul Walker’s brother’s wedding that was a huge honor to do as well.

I think our clients know how passionate we are when it comes to their wedding form the first meeting to the wedding day. We’ll do anything to make their dreams comes true!

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success for me is seeing the brides on their wedding day, their happiness makes me feel like we did another successful job well done. We have so many clients now that are referrals from past brides it’s enough for us fill up our calendar of weddings for the year. Also seeing our work get published regularly on popular wedding blogs is pretty awesome!
