Meet Shayla Peterson of Ctrl Shift Balance Mental Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shayla Peterson.

Shayla, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Over 18 years ago, my life as a clinical social worker began. Long before my graduation from California State University, Long Beach, I knew that I want to serve others, but did not know that my life would take me on a journey to serving some many different populations in different regions of the United States. This ultimately inspired my entrepreneurial journey. As psychotherapist, consultant, clinical supervisor, and author has allowed for me to help modern women to achieve balance in all areas of their lives even in the middle of chaos. My framework is simple, I help women create BALANCE by establishing Boundaries, Acknowledging feelings, Letting go of control, use of Assertiveness, taking a Non-judgmental stance, self-Compassion and Expectancy for positive change.

Within the last 8 years I have focused my efforts on helping women create balance in their career, family, and self. After years of working in the field of clinical social work, I realized that I was forced to evolve as wife and mother while balancing my career as a psychotherapist. In midst of it, Ctrl Shift Balance Mental Wellness was developed and helped other women with similar experiences like my own. I thoroughly enjoy helping modern women reach their goals for finding balance. My practice allows for me work one on one with women who desire real change and explore those barriers that keep them from prioritizing self to create a balanced lifestyle. I look for ways to help women unpack baggage that keeps them from taking the steps to create balance to thrive both personally and professionally. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I believe that emotional well-being and mental health is the key to have a healthy lifestyle. When I am not in session, I have been invited to speak on topics of Mental Wellness for the Working Woman, Stress & Anxiety, How to Overcome Worry & Conquer Self-Doubt, Learning to say “No,” Managing the Holidays with Family, Wellness Fatigue and Personal Development. Most recently, I wrote a 40-day journal for daily encouragement and self-reflection titled, “Hey Sis.”

Has it been a smooth road?
“A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor”. Early on in my career, I saw myself as a therapist only, but now I must incorporate my role as practice owner adding a new set of responsibility to being a military spouse, mother, and clinician. This has been a huge transition for me especially while moving every few years as military spouse and raising an active daughter. It can be hard to establish roots and build a network when you move to a new state every few years. There are three things that I have learned 1) Do not be afraid to delegate or ask for help (we cannot do it all). 2) Get a mentor, identify others that you look up to and who you can learn from. 3) Connect with a community that you can grow with both personally and professionally. It can be a challenge to create balance when you are constantly being pulled into several roles and locations, I try to look for the adventure in the many moments and enjoy the waves.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
