Today we’d like to introduce you to Shar’dae Bell.

Shar’dae Bell

Shar’dae, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve been a hands-on person since the beginning of time. Art was always a way for me to open minds and express mine. I’ve been creating art for a couple of decades now, and as time progressed, I felt it in my heart to create a brand that embodied all the things that I do artistically, to not only shine a light on what I do but to provide access to other artists as well so that they can shine theirs. How I went about this was starting a business called Passion of the Lyricist, which aims to give a platform for fashion, words, visuals and all things art. Passion of the Lyricist is still in its building phase. I began writing at a very young age; I started with short stories, which shortly developed into poems and then into songs. One thing that always stayed near and dear to my heart is dance, dancing has always been one of the best and most exhilarating expressions of art.

To me, it doesn’t require words or even the attention to detail to be on the same beat as others. I was just able to move freely and let the vibrations of the tunes move my body. Another form of my artistic expression is photography. Photography has been a passion of mine since I was a small child. I was blessed with the opportunity to always have a camera present thanks to my parents and I took pictures everywhere I went all the time. When I left the house, I had my camera, my Walkman, a book, and a notebook with me at all times. I was always ready and willing to create in any form that spoke to me in those moments. Art continues to be a way for me to express myself through all things.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road to becoming a business owner has not been a smooth one, but it has been worth it. The main struggles are just realizing all of the different layers that come with being a business owner.

The road of being an artist has not been smooth either as there are a lot of avenues and rooms that you must be a part of to create true traction for yourself. But the struggles are always worth it because the passion is bigger to me than all of these things.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My business is called Passion of the Lyricist, which highlights all forms of art. I am most known for my lyricism, be it poetry or song. I am most proud of some of the venues that I have been able to perform at and the people I have been able to engage with and touch through art. Words are powerful, and if used right, they can shine a light on topics that some are scared to talk about or even express. I always try to stay true to myself and speak from my journey. What sets me apart from others is that since day one, I’ve only spoken through my eyes. I find clever and catchy ways to talk about some taboo topics and to always stay true to me and not mold to what’s trending.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
The thing I like best about my city is that it’s very eclectic. We have an array of energies that reside here and although it’s considered small in regards to LA, there’s so many opportunities and awesome talents that come from here. The thing I like least about the IE is that everyone feels we have to go outside of our city to continue to create something great.
