Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Fangsrud
Hi, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Thanks so much for having me! My story began growing up always loving the idea and the process of taking photographs in my backyard as a young girl. Back in January of 2021 I got my first professional camera and began taking photographs for friends and family, which quickly turned to photographing for those I didn’t know and booking more and more photo sessions.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the challenges I’ve learned is that it’s okay to be different. It’s okay to be yourself, and to definitely say no to something you aren’t comfortable with. I have since grown a great referral base here in the New Orleans area, so if it is not something I am comfortable doing or don’t believe I have the best capabilities to handle it, I have a great group that I can trust to handle those sessions. Another challenge I have learned lately has been figuring out my true editing style, and making sure I don’t suffer from imposter syndrome. Being a photographer in such a saturated location can be difficult, especially if sometimes I think there are photographers WAY better than me, but I have to always remind myself that I am good, I can take and edit wonderful photos, and I have clients that can attest to that.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I love traveling, and I have a good list of places on my bucket list to photograph. Travel photography is a wonderful and special thing to get involved in, because it just makes me that much more accessible for clients and helps me to be able to build special relationships and memories for people.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happy is not only making sure my clients are happy, but I also have a strong support system that helps keep me grounded. I know I can trust my family and my friends here, and I am so thankful for them in this journey. Spending time with them has been a blessing. Building relationships with my clients that turn into friends has been such an amazing, yet unexpected, thing that I love, and I cherish it everyday.
