Meet Shakai Bulgin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shakai Bulgin.

Shakai Bulgin

Shakai, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In 2020, The year COVID-19 & Black injustice had an uproar, I was inspired to get the message across called “Stop Killing Our People Dem”. I ran to my local Staples in the west end of the city and printed a few shirts with that quote for like $25 dollars. The following day, I went to a protest Downtown, and people were asking where I got my shirt from. Within a few minutes, 5 people had my message across their chest, marching against police brutality. Within a week, I had Hundreds of orders from strangers, friends, and family wanting to support me. From then the journey started for my Official Clothing Brand. I had no name at the time, but I also produced beats and went by “BREADRIN” because of my Jamaican Heritage. Then it clicked when God spoke to me through a verse saying “Don’t live on bread alone but every word of God” – (Matthew 4;4) and that stuck with me because of what I was currently facing in those moments. No matter what happens in life, I cannot depend on the things of this world but the Word of God. 4 years later, we are dropping our toughest collections yet. Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been a smooth journey. Running a brand by yourself can be a very difficult process, but over the years, I’ve grown to receive help from others and just overall knowledge of how to maintain a business. You must be sponge and be receptive to others, but never stir away from your Mission Statement.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’ve always been a creative since a child. My first love is music, but right after, it is visual arts. I love to design and specialize in graphics design. I’m known for being innovative, whether it be making a beat or designing a clothing item. 1 major thing I’m most proud of is me actual starting my business and accepting that blessing into my life; that is why I put God first in everything I do

We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Back in High School, I learned how to DJ & won the district finale for “DJ of the Year” and also 1st place Champions for our DJ team at school. During my last 2 years of High School, I taught children in elementary school how to DJ and became a Mentor at the age of 17
