Today we’d like to introduce you to Seima Diaz.
Hi Seima, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As a child growing up in a culture that often dismissed mental health, I frequently felt confused and eager to understand the behaviors and motivations of those around me. That curiosity led me to psychology, where I discovered a meaningful path to better understand both myself and others. Determined to become a helping professional, I committed fully to my education, earning my Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Science, Master’s degrees in Counseling Psychology, and ultimately my Doctorate in Counseling Psychology — all by the age of 29. Alongside my academic journey, I dedicated many years to my own personal growth and well-being through therapy and holistic healing practices.
After several years of clinical experience, becoming a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and teaching psychology at Chapman University, I launched my private practice in 2017. Guiding others on their journeys of healing and self-development has been an incredibly fulfilling experience. I feel aligned, inspired, and deeply grateful to do this work every day.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My passion for this work has definitely made the journey meaningful, but it hasn’t always been smooth. Like any worthwhile path, there have been bumps along the way. Thankfully, I’ve always been a self-starter and a creative problem solver, which helped me approach challenges with a sense of curiosity rather than fear. Starting my private practice was both exciting and nerve-wracking—I had to figure out the business side of things, build a strong network from the ground up, and trust that my vision would unfold step by step.
One of the biggest challenges came during the COVID-19 pandemic. Overnight, everything changed, and I had to transition my entire practice online. I’ll never forget my very first telehealth session—I was nervous, wondering if the depth and connection of therapy could really translate through a screen. But slowly, both my clients and I adapted. What started as an intimidating shift became a huge opportunity for growth. Today, about 40% of my practice is conducted through telehealth, and it’s incredible to see how much more accessible therapy has become for people—whether they’re at home, at work, or even in different parts of the state.
Looking back, every challenge has stretched me in ways that made me a better therapist and business owner. I’ve learned to lean into uncertainty, stay flexible, and keep my purpose at the center of it all. Those moments of growth are often where the most meaningful transformation happens.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and the founder of a private practice dedicated to holistic healing and trauma recovery. My work focuses on helping individuals move beyond old patterns, heal from painful experiences, and reconnect with a sense of strength and self-trust. I integrate evidence-based methods, like DBT and mindfulness, with a compassionate and practical approach that meets people where they are and helps them build real change in their daily lives.
What I’m most proud of is creating a space where clients feel truly seen and safe enough to do the deeper work of healing. Many of my clients come to me feeling stuck or misunderstood, and to witness them reclaim their voice, their boundaries, and their ability to thrive is incredibly meaningful.
I also work extensively with couples, helping them strengthen communication, rebuild trust, and create deeper intimacy. My approach focuses on breaking old cycles and giving partners practical tools to navigate conflict while staying connected.
In the past, I’ve hosted retreats designed to give individuals and couples the space to step away from daily stress and focus fully on their healing. These retreats combined therapeutic workshops, mindfulness practices, and community connection in a supportive and restorative environment.
What sets me apart is the way I blend depth and practicality. I’m not only focused on insight, but also on giving people tangible tools they can use right away. I approach the work holistically—mind, body, and spirit—while also making sure each person feels grounded and supported throughout the process. My goal is always to help people not just cope, but to grow, heal, and live more fully aligned lives.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I absolutely would not be where I am today without the unwavering support of my husband and my parents. My husband has been my biggest cheerleader from the very beginning—encouraging me to take risks, reminding me of my strengths on the hard days, and celebrating each step forward with me. His belief in me has given me the courage to grow both personally and professionally.
My parents have also played a huge role in my journey. They instilled in me the values of hard work, perseverance, and compassion, which have become the foundation of how I show up for my clients and my business. My mom and dad both modeled resilience in their own lives and entrepreneurship, showing me that it’s possible to move through challenges with grace and determination. They also encouraged me to pursue my education and passion for helping others from an early age, which shaped the path I’m on today. Their support, both emotionally and practically, has given me the space and stability to pursue this work wholeheartedly.
I truly see my work as a reflection of the love, encouragement, and example I’ve received from them, and I’m so grateful to have such a strong foundation behind me.
