Meet Rob Potylo of Quiet Desperation in Pasadena

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rob Potylo.

Rob, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Quiet Desperation is a documentary series I created out of Pasadena! It focuses on the struggles of being a creative type in a country at the height of her Anti-Intellectual era! It showcases musicians, comedians, artists around Los Angeles that are trying to exist!

A lot of the story is a border-line mockumentary, and there’s plenty of laughs! There’s been 300 artists featured and showcased on the series so far! Some have gone on to magical careers performing on Conan, Letterman, IFC, Last Comic Standing, ABC… Everything really. 🙂

We have 4 great episodes on Youtube! Funded by a grassroots Kickstarter campaign back in March!

Here’s our playlist for the new season!!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The struggle is getting an audience… Everyone is trying to create these days… So much content is uploaded daily. It’s hard to get eyes on one’s art! And sadly a lot of people base their online watching on statistics. The struggle is trying to get people’s eyes.

It’s also tricky to get talent for the show. A lot of artists these days especially on the West coast love to a ghost! Say everything they need to say to get a part, but when it comes to going time they are nowhere to be found… Sad.

Through these struggles, we feel our documentary has become a stronger more meaningful creation that has captured the imaginations of everyone watching or involved.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Quiet Desperation – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Quiet Desperation employers videographers, editors, actors, and a wide variety of creative types that want to be part of a grassroots documentary series that showcases the struggles of trying to be creative at a very cynical anti-intellectual time in this country!

What sets us apart is the company focusing on supporting and championing the artist… At a time when funding for the arts is being slashed across the country!

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We’re looking to move Quiet Desperation to a bigger platform to showcase all the amazing local Los Angeles artists we feature on the show! We’re quite proud of what Los Angeles has produced for grassroots talent, and we’re looking to continue to play a part in capturing that.

We’re looking to move it to a Netflix, IFC, Youtube Red Original series in the future, and are very excited at the idea of a grassroots documentary comedy series showcasing the best and brightest in Los Angeles!!
