Today we’d like to introduce you to Riley the Magician.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Riley the Magician. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started doing Magic at 13. I was inspired by a TV magic show my neighbors told me about. I was hooked after seeing the incredible illusions. I saved up a little money and bought some tricks at the local magic shop before it got shut down and turned into a hat store. My early days, I performed for friends and kids at school.
Then started Youtube in 2007, uploading 240p quality videos almost daily. I probably had 300 videos all magic tricks done with a terrible webcam or my friend’s tape camera. Then in 2012, I really started taking Youtube seriously and treated it like a job/business. I have gotten a good following and 12 Million plus views overall. I never imagined this could happen. Now I do magic gigs professionally. I plan on doing a virtual tour in 2021 so people can see what a live show is like.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Trying to balance a daily life/day job while also being a magician is not an easy task. I often cannot practice like I once could when I was younger.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am known for close up magic mainly. I take the street magic style videos I do an apply it to my gigs. If somebody hires me, they know I can do in your face close up magic just like in my videos! I also have done a little stage magic which includes a bit of comedy/gags too. What sets me apart from others in the business is that I’m just me the entire time. I am monotone and have odd humor mixed with my metalhead appearance. Sometimes It goes over well and other times not so much. I always try my best to entertain no matter what but still be myself.
